  1. thanks guys, looks like the 6 function is the one needed.
  2. I'm looking for help on decoders. I have an 071 with a 3 function decoder fitted, cant get the cab lights to work (usually F4 or F8). Should I be using a 4 function decoder to get the cab lights on, i.e a bachmann 36-577?
  3. versbruk dork technic.............im sure somebody will correct this. When it comes to business transactions, they simply operate on a different level. I'd love to hear someone explain to them the 'cute whoreism, nod and wink' business thats done here. End of rant .......off thread...... apologies.
  4. Noel, i'd be really interested to hear how you get on with the decoder. Have you played around with the CV's on the hornby decoder? Would more weight be needed if the traction tyres are removed? I'm also looking at the 70/80's era and a few SF's are on the wish list to go along with my Class C (but the 121 is still top of the list, looks like I could be waiting).
  5. Burn, the one I got came DCC ready, to fit the decoder you have to lift the body off by cutting the glue line between the body and the chassis. I tried a bachmann 4 pin decoder and it jumped around the track. I then tried a standard hornby decoder, it was ok but not good at slow running. I then tried a hornby sapphire decoder, there was an improvement, and i'm sure if a mess with the CV's I could get it better. I hope this is a prompt for Noel to row in . P.S. mine has rubber tractions tyres, and as its not all wheel pick it can stall over X crossings. I'm reluctant to take them off, anybody any thoughts on this?
  6. Hi, Burn, I got one a while back. If you're fitting a decoder, i'd be interested to hear how its goes, what type, CV settings, slow running etc, thanks in advance.
  7. Guys, thanks for the answers, Dave thanks for the pictures. I thought hornby and peco were geometrically compatible. The double slip is a very useful piece of track for managing siding etc., and after messing around on anyrail software it looks like the flexi track is the only answer. Dave, with respect to your layout, if the hornby and peco are the same and your looking for 67mm centers why did you have to add an additional piece of track between?
  8. Does anybody know how to incorporate a Peco SL-90 doubleslip switch into hornby track geometey (67mm centres), without using flexible track.
  9. wow great photo, takes me back. Dublin looks clean and bright. Have a look at the height of the tv aerials!!
  10. iarnrod, I know this is off topic but my curiosity is getting the better of, why 31?
  11. Thanks for that Noel, do you know which type of hornby decoder was fitted? the reason I ask is I got a class C two years ago and initially fitted a bachmann decoder, it kangrooed around the track. I changed to a hornby and it is ok but not good at slow running (when compared to an MM). I would be interested in how you get on with the CV settings and what values you assign to them. My class C has issues over insulfrog points (its not all wheel pick up and has traction rubbers, is your class A all wheel).
  12. Noel, firstly what a fabulous layout, locos and carraiges, one day when I get my backside off the couch.....Can I ask, I presume the black and tan A class is an SF model, what type of chip did you put into it and did you have to adjust any of the CV settings? Also how long did you have to wait for the SF model, Im considering getting one this year.
  13. the chap in the front middle without the cap, a young Stpehen Fry?? the guy to his left, one of the Cray twins??
  14. I have a hornby deltic that needs repair. Its a non-runner and needs some intricate soldering on loose wiring (I dont have the skills). Does anybody know someone who does repairs?
  15. No worries Dive, hope the postal costs to Texas is not too much. Three months to go before the half century, so not so young.
