This is the only scenario for somebody in Ireland buying from outside the EU, no?

Also, €100 is a lot of money in a third world country. What the Hell are you importing?

Sorry that should read third countries, i.e ones that aren’t members of the EU or EFTA

So the bottom line, for the Irish punter, is that THERE IS VAT charged on postage when buying from / importing from outside the EU.

Doesn't matter who charges it, and the statements here on the forum about there being no VAT on postage are misleading, but Ireland is the same as here, so, you pay tax on the total landed value declared on the parcel.

My apologies to @John-r for being misinformed!

I think you are getting two seperate scenarios confused to be honest..

What @BosKonaysaid is as that VAT is payable on courier fees, i.e if you are booking a shipment with DPD/UPS/FedEx/DHL then you pay VAT on the courier fees but not to An Post/RM/DHL post Germany if you post with them.

He then elaborated that VAT is payable on an import shipment, as the value used by customs for calculating the VAT due is the landed value. This covers all costs incurred to get the shipment to the point of arrival(including shipping/postage)..

So if I buy item x for €100 from a third world country, and pay €10 postage, then the VAT due will be €110(purchase price plus postage) x 23 per cent

@TheSeanRailWay and @37058 are both looking for one of these!

Cracking little sets, definitely worth looking at.

That's who I had in mind, but I didn't seem to get any bites on here or on adverts in the week it was up.

I stuck it up on Facebook on Wednesday morning, and had 5 offers by lunchtime, was collected and paid for on Wednesday.. Can't argue with that

Please, please, pretty please, green Consent Leasing, OOCL, and yellow ContainerShips at the very least!

Wouldn't say no to a Boluda 20' HC, if you're stretching the margins a little.

The first 3 fall into the realms of possible, although OOCL has been done a couple of times as both 40ft DV(Dapol and C-rail I think) and 40ft HC(Dapol current release) as has Consent leasing(Bachmann 13.6m). Containerships yellow is a glaring omission so far on any size of box

But a Boulda 20ft HC I can't see ever being a runner in OO, its the wrong region for the gauge and I don't think we see very many in UK or Ireland.. It's also a unusual height that not many others use, so would need to be a bespoke tooling with only a few livery options. In my 12 plus years in shipping I have never once had a shipment by 20ft dry van container that is anything other than 8ft 6in.

There have already been road vehicles in garda markings, and buses in UTA & CDR liveries, and a double decker probably suitable for 0 scale, in CIE green. Lorries in CIE green and 1960s black cabs.

    Perhaps some of the following:

    1.  Postal vans - to be seen on platforms loading mail off trains - older dark green "P & T" livery, or Royal Mail red for the north

    2. Buses from various eras in CIE, UTA & Ulsterbus liveries.

    3. Lorries with CIE (various eras), UTA & Northern Ireland Carriers liveries. The latter suitable sitting alongside a RTR Jeep, whenever that comes out!

    4. ESB vehicles.

Not sure if this one has passed you by Jonathan, but falls solidly into no.3

A long way from Norn Irn to Dugort harbour mind.

  7. After all the discussion on here about these, I thought I would dig this out of my parents attic and find it a home where it sees a bit of use. Box and model are both in excellent condition, and the train it self has seen very little running. A small tweak I did was removing the plastic gangways the model came with, and replacing them with grey blanking plates. This mimics real life, with at least one Limerick set being so treated before the class was removed from service.

Looking for €150 with free delivery in Dublin or P&P elsewhere at cost

  9. Every day is a learning day as they say. At first glance, all the tanks in these pics are the Transamerica type with Bell labels applied

But in the third pic, can be seen a BELL liveried tank peeking out from behind the P&O container. It seems to be an older type tank, so maybe these were phased out/replaced by the hired in tanks.

It is interesting that BELL featured both tanks and 30ft Bulk containers in their fleets, most shipping lines don't carry specialised types like this. The majority of bulk containers are either operated by dedicated bulk operators like Hoyer, GCA, Bruhn or Bertschi or hired by the cargo owner and moved as shippers own containers(think DANA and Murphy tanks on the Norfolk/DFDS/XPO liners)

    Hi Aaron,

any chance of a BELL tanker to go with your other BELL offerings?

I could be wrong(I was 6 when BELL when bust) but I don’t think there was any BELL liveries tank containers.. Rather they leased some tanks, that kept the original livery but had a label or labels applied? I shared a pic of a transamerica tank the same as the one Arran does on here a while back with such a label

Great find. I picked up a couple of these recently, with the slim hope they might have been used here at some stage. Always nice to see something confirmed in print.

I was looking at some images of the traversers at Inchicore Works, specifically the longer one at the carriage shops, and that got me wondering if Inchicore had anything like a small roadrailer or locotractor for moving coaches and locos in and out of the sheds onto the traverser? Specifically in the 80s and 90s time period. Anyone can shed some light on this?

On another thread on this forum, member @Niles mentions there is a Zephir LOK 1400 at Inchicore. This might be a more recent addition.

There’s madder than that, someone on the official page saying it was deliberate fires started by some sort of activists in a campaign to get 85 back on the mainline.

It’s hard to tell satire from tinfoil hattery these days.

The continuity RPSI is alive and well it seems
