  1. In the real world, straight track is much easier to put down and there would generally need to be a reasonable reason for curving things.
  2. Nothing is risk-free.
  3. Get a new one? The internet is full of adverts...
  4. I wonder if there could be a facility for invoices/receipt to show the goods as bulk purchases of washing powder, lawn mower spares, etc. This could make things easier for those under domestic pressures. Obviously, for fertiliser wagons, it just needs a few omissions for 'her' to think that the purchaser is actually behaving as instructed.
  5. In the aftermath of the Big Snow. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/near-miss-with-train-driver-at-stafford View from the front of the approaching train at 85mph.
  6. Chinchilla fur is a bit awkward if you get it wet. They much prefer to bathe in dust - you can get it from pet suppliers. Usually a dry clay powder.
  7. We're beginning to go round in circles here now - or, more accurately, ovals.
  8. Oh, cheers - actually, if you're buying, I'll have an advocaat, thanks.
  9. My eyes have glazed over.
  10. Normally called a pin chuck, pin vice or pin vise - that one above is a real beauty! The rotating cap makes things much easier to control. There are many such things available, i.e. - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXPO-75070-PIN-VICE-with-a-3-jaw-chuck-that-holds-drill-sizes-0-1mm-to-2-5mm/312043854480?epid=782164257&hash=item48a7435a90:g:fqMAAOxyxpxQ5gEW
  11. Omelettein' this slide, it could go on into Fry-day otherwise and I just won't whisk it. I'm beaten now.
  12. I wonder what projects they'll be hatching next? I'm sure that they have plans laid.
  13. If it brings them out of their shells, it's got to be worth trying.
  14. You really shouldn't turn such a serious matter into a yolk.
  15. I had the opportunity to have a look round the premises there a few years ago - a very impressive set-up.
  16. Indeed, we find ourselves in kinder times now. Oh, hang on....
  17. On BBC Radio 4's I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, they had a round for completing modern versions of proverbs. As mad as... ...a phone-in caller.
  18. It would be interesting to have a ball-park figure for the relative costs per kilometre for tram-lines and underground railways. Tram stops are fairly cheap to provide - an underground station is a whole other scenario. Whether people like it or not, it's all about cost/benefit in the end. Even in the UK with its horrendous urban traffic conditions, there are only underground systems in three places outside London. Newcastle, Glasgow and Liverpool. I note that Enniscorthy has an underground railway, but I've never been able to find the entrance to the station escalator...
  19. No stopping the Japanese... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapporo_Dome#Retractable_surface
  20. Most days the wind blows straight up the track - it may be almost self-cleaning?
  21. The scene at Hazlehatch today...
  22. The parking situation is reaching crisis levels - this was the scene at 3pm yesterday, both sides of the access road almost out to the main road. There were two spots in the 'official' car park, due to people returning from a morning visit to Dublin, presumably. The Orange Army, or at least part of an orange platoon, were renovating the platform edges.
  23. Looks good - do the brakes work?
  24. Does this mean that we have cylindrical bearings rather than pinpoint ones? I take it there's not a huge increase in drag - it's noticeable with things like the Hornby lighted Pullmans where the axle contacts add a bit of extra resistance - maybe something to consider if you have slopes, etc?
  25. There's axles and there's axels...
