  1. Right, well it seems that some cavalry horses did actually get painted up in a dazzle scheme during the East Africa campaign in WW1.. Yeah, probably more of a pony - on the small side..
  2. Running again now - quicker than seemed likely, initially. The culprit.
  3. Crossing struck between Sydney Parade and Lansdowne - looks like it might go on for a while..
  4. BMW - special rules apply...
  5. Water was a good bit higher when it happened than it might appear by the time those pictures were taken - a very near miss, certainly.
  6. I also picked up a copy of this for a quid.
  7. I've just been to a small, local exhibition, run by - http://www.hpw-railway.org.uk/ - in a nearby village. Mostly UK stuff, apart from one US layout. Some really high quality modelling on show. Several of the layouts had both 00 and 00-9 sections. I did notice that the DC/DCC ratio was about 50/50, but all of the DCC layouts were using NCE Powercab units.
  8. Further excitement at Dawlish - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-34499664 - rail services not affected.
  9. This is fairly entertaining - and a bit alarming... http://www.home-museum.com/howto/HowToArts/Psychology/psychology.htm

Phoenix suggest that it should be OK on resin - http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/about-us/hints-tips/etch-primers.html - perhaps even a good idea - but a test piece might be worth doing..
  11. Over here, although they may not be doing it any more, the Asda supermarket chain used to have "greeters" as you arrived through the door - if I wanted people to be paid to pretend to be happy to see me then I could just go down the pub....

  14. Most people know that February is the shortest month, but not everybody realises that October is the longest month.

  16. Road closure over the bridge from October 19th to November 30th - diversions will be posted, but they could be very diversionary.... This is on the R433 Rathdowney to Templemore Road.
  17. Mark it in your diary.
  18. "Will passengers please all sit on the platform side of the coach, thank you".
  19. Sod is a funny word - I brought one back through Holyhead, during the 'security' times, wrapped in newspaper. I got stopped and the bag was being emptied out, I was managing to explain everything as it appeared - until the nice English customs chap pulled the wrapped item out - What's in here? - I could only think of 'sod' and it is just not a polite word on this side, so I hesitated, he became immediately suspicious and carefully unwrapped it, breaking off a bit of the brown, fibrous matter and sniffing it - I think he could smell promotion, his mates standing behind him were well aware of what it was, but were just laughing amongst themselves at him. I managed to explain satisfactorily and was released.... He never noticed the Holy Water.
  20. Cork granules are available in various grades, they might need a blow-over for that nice, dark colour that we all prefer...

  22. 1% is three and a half days a year - that's almost a hundred hours of running time. I can't see David managing to do all of that....

  24. Didn't Mike 84C do something along those lines a while back...?
