  1. 2810 was looking slightly lonely... Some athleticism was displayed by the returning enthusiasts. As I passed the bridge, some effort was made by the Onboard Hospitality Staff to get me to board the train. Nowhere near as much effort as the loco crew put into trying to attract these three, though... And then they were off. With a cheery wave. And then they were gone.
  2. I caught it at Ballybrophy. I was slightly late and it was slightly early, so I didn't quite manage the 'distant approach shot'.
  3. Three bridge strikes today - two in Dublin and one at Portarlington...
  4. There comes a point where a driver is promoted to the post of Controller...
  5. This theme park actually exists - I understand that you can avail of a 10% discount by pronouncing the code-word "Vehicle" 'correctly'... https://www.gardaland.it/en/
  6. The website of the unfortunately named Pen Island organisation, does make it look like a rather weird theme park. http://www.penisland.net/
  7. @Admin needs to get a good grip of this, before things get out of hand.
  8. What you end up doing will depend upon the actual situation on the site - and its history. Some thought also needs to be given to the future, whether you're going to need to dig it up regularly or not - more of an issue with roads, I suppose, rather than railways. About £250,000,000 for the one above - https://www.railwayoperators.co.uk/2017/05/presentation-norton-bridge-remodelling-and-grade-separation-6th-october-2016/ - to reduce conflicting crossovers at an existing adjacent junction.
  9. Some of the issues and remedies - https://cdn.networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Earthworks-Technical-Strategy.pdf This new embankment near me did get supplied with trees. They need to be the "right sort of trees" to reduce the leaf-fall problems... You can see the overheads for the old line , and just see its rails at the bottom on the left - the new diverging line runs across at the top, where the work is going on in the picture - any slippage has the potential to disrupt the whole lot.
  10. Not the prettiest of scenery remodelling. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-49863653
  11. @heirflick was deported from Mullingar many years ago, he may know of some that you might not have already found, when he passes by here next...
  12. Mmm - more careful perusal of that tweet would have spotted the extra letter in "IaranrodEireann" and the lack of a 'Verified' sticker. Tut, I must be more careful in future...

Anyone venturing on the roads around there is well advised to Google 'birmingham traffic' for a good idea of the current state of affairs, before venturing into it. Today, I took an hour and three quarters to transport someone the eighteen miles from Stafford to Wolverhampton hospital - the first three miles took forty five minutes. 160 miles in six hours is almost light speed...
  14. Brexit means Brexit...? Voted. Good luck.
  15. I know some people like to have background sounds running when using their layouts, sometimes people even have the odd station announcement to be heard. Here is one that may not be heard very often.

    David Boyle.

I have just heard the sad news of the passing of David Boyle, founder of Dapol. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/blackpoolgazette-uk/obituary.aspx?n=david-boyle&pid=193950262&fhid=41140&fbclid=IwAR0OQPVUY4ZL-2X30vRk0iVpIOB1SzURfQf9IffMVCuUExjwynTZr-VY7Xw
  17. It might be an MIR kit? Model Irish Railways. @WRENNEIRE is likely to have a better idea than me...
  18. I presume they're still there, but I was always amused by the "Stay behind the yellow line. Trains may pass at speed" signs right by the buffers in Heuston. Maybe this is what they have in mind?
  19. I can't find any evidence of it online now, but I do remember another prison near here having a very successful art facility in the 1980s, with the intention of rehabilitating offenders. This ran well for many years - until it was discovered that a lot of the paintings, which were done in the style of minor, but collectable, artists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, were being given to visitors quite innocuously, but then sold through several galleries in London as genuine items.
  20. I live near a large prison, a few years ago three blokes escaped over the wall and ran off to the station about a mile away, getting onto a southbound train. Two of them were caught fairly quickly, by being with "known associates", but the third disappeared completely for many months. He was eventually caught entirely by accident by police on the south coast, solely because he walking to work and looked like a suspect that they were actually after at the time. Because he had been arrested, albeit mistakenly, they checked his DNA and the truth came out about who he was...
  21. True cutting-edge technology.. Reducing the curve will certainly help, too.
  22. And another one - the lower midday Sun can reach further into the house...
  23. I only put the link up to stop people Googling '50 shades of grey' - the Forum has gone very quiet....
  24. I found it here - https://moorestonemodeller.wordpress.com/2015/09/12/50-x-50-shades-of-grey-first-outing/
