  2. It was a fantastic layout. I gave my vote to Killagen since it was its last time out before retiring to a new owner!
  3. Just back from show, really enjoyed it. Had the privilege of getting behind the scenes of Gerrys amazing N-gauge layout 'Llanuwchllyn' and seeing Killagen on its last ever outing. As always it was nice to speak to Kieran, Gerry and Dave. Also, had a very friendly chat with Ian at Killagen. Congratulations to the organisers and thank you to the modellers for putting all the time and effort to be there. Tony
  4. Anybody know what time the Belfast show ends on Sunday - I'll be in the area and will call before I head for home.
  5. Lovely piece of work, must be a real pleasure working in a larger scale. Not only is it easier on the eye but you can actually see the quality of craftsmanship.
  6. Did you apply the paint before ballasting and was it handprinted with brush? A tedious job but with great results.
  7. Love the ground cover in the yard, what did you paint the rails with - very authentic!
  8. I've learned a lot from making a hasty entrance into layout planning - I started three times and failed three times. The first thing to get into your head is 'what way you see your finished layout' then work back. I went from a maize of complicated paintwork to a simple twin track loop with sidings and a fiddle yard. This allows for long flowing trains of goods wagons, lots of storage and an illusion of distance from A to B. My shed measures 3m x1.7m and my baseboards are a sensible 350mm wide. I have 15 points in total and am fitting point motors to 10 of them at the moment. I've learned to do a little each day, or when I have time and now I enjoy it more than ever. Be patient, think things through and listen to advice - sometimes, I didn't and it cost me. Good luck
  9. Slowly adding point motors, never easy on your own - lying on your back trying to work above your head!
  10. Backscene board at door entrance complete and ready for grey primer
  11. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship, you must be so proud of yourself. Is it a scratch built model and if so what materials were used, if you don't mind me asking.
  12. Has anyone wired these components on their layout. I’m just haven’t a clue. Can you help?
  13. Thanks David, things are falling into place nicely
  14. Plywood fitted today for 12” backscene and little ply shelf in place for controller and switches.
  15. Brings back memories of a layout I once had in my attic, back in the mid 1980s
  16. Sounds like an exciting layout indeed
  17. Dave, a very nice piece of work there, a clever technique. In my case I have a double track going around the corners of the lift out section and it's not my cup of tea. However, I don't need to do it now, I can think about as it become absolutely necessary. Thanks
  18. Ernie, Makes perfect sense to me. Why would you want to start all that tricky soldering and wiring, especially when its all curves down that end!
  19. Noel, that exactly what i’m doing at the moment and it doesn’t bother me. Another reason why I’m considering leaving it is there are four point there with too much track to be bothered cutting and soldering. Thanks Noel
  20. It’s an amazing layout - the Adavoyle of the 3mm society.
