  1. Previous efforts at shunting layouts have led to complex pointwork and wiring. This created much frustration especially when locos had nowhere to travel. thanks
  2. Sounds good. Apart from the complex point work at Omagh Goods Yard when the line left the station area, in either direction, there was nothing but a single line of track all the way to the next stop. With this in mind, I think there is a need to raise the entire track enough all round to form embankments and bridges to give an illusion of reality. Therefore, i'll be keeping the area off the station area very simple. No point in complicating things. Thanks
  3. David, thanks. I get you. Mainline with passenger stock to the back scene and wagon stock to the inside of the baseboards where curves are tighter. Correct?
  4. At the moment I have two options that raise some thought. Moving my goods yard into the right corner (in bottom picture) and running the main line across the front of the baseboards, or I can move the Goods Yard buildings to the small unpainted triangle on the left and run the continuous main line behind it along the walls. Whats the best way to do this. The first option is set out roughly at moment, below.
  5. Finally made the move and made a total restart in the shed, below you can see that I am now using all four walls of the shed and want to see those GNRi locomotives moving with lots of goods on board. Ultimately I want two lines to allow continuous movement around the shed with sidings at various locations. So I’m back at the design stage, again but much happier with the baseboards now. The board at the shed door lifts in and out easily.
  6. Since there is nothing on in the North of the Island I would make a point of calling at Headhunters Museum, Darling Street, Enniskillen if you are in the area. Also, Transport Museum, Cultra, Belfast. That’s two days out anyway.
  7. Where baseboards meet at internal corners it is quite common to add small triangles to carry the curve of the trackwork. Surely it would look better to cut the baseboard top to the curve of the track leaving enough for ballast and some margin of safety?
  8. An excellent turntable kit by South Eastern Finecast, a manually operated kit with all parts included including worm gears. Never built, parts still in original packing with instructions, never opened. Cost £53 will accept £45 PM if interested. http://www.sefinecast.co.uk/Turntables/Turntables.htm
  9. Jonathan, Believe me the best mail order company I find are 'Track Shack' based in the Isle of Man. My orders arrive within 48hours at minimum cost. This includes lengths of flexi- track which they send out in sturdy cardboard tubing packed with foam. Postage usually £3 - £4. They carry a fantastic stock and they really care about their customers.
  10. Since the arrival of the UG and U Class locos at Omagh I have felt quite disheartened with my efforts to give them the opportunity to travel distance. Shunting is tedious and set my mind thinking of calling a halt to what I'm doing and possibly expand to allow movement around the entire shed. Would be nice to see these beauties travel. Hence, time for a rethink.......
  11. Noel, its a promising looking arrangement and you have captured the design well. You may have to start soon though because the Irish winter is here!
  12. IrishSwissErnie, this really looks great - I over the colours you achieved on the Wills Scenic sheet. Never easy but you cracked it.
  13. Good idea, must try that!
  14. Gone!
  15. Free to a good home - free post S4 Society - 21mm track gauge S4 Society - 21mm punched sleepers (50) S4 Society - Set Brass 21mm W Irons PM - first come gets it
  16. Not at all pleased with the shade of red brickwork card - any ideas?
  17. Heres a view of bread containers entering the Goods Store.
  18. Have been absolutely blown away by the detail and quality of the buildings that Warb has done on his layout using Wills Scenic Sheets. So much so that my feeble efforts using Metcalfe printed card look so amateurish. Will be rethinking the use of Wills sheets as a more suitable material.
  19. PM received, thank you Noel
  20. I need two red brick arches from their pack to finish the wall I am modelling. They are 20mm between the inside of the arch openings. Can you help? PM
  21. David, I really do like the look at feel of the Metcalfe papers and card. I think they could have put a bit more thought into the design of the corner quoins. When my sections are glued together I don't think they will be as obvious and if I have to I can 'tone down' the white paper seam that is always a give away. As I said in an earlier post, the parts are sitting loosely. When the Goods Yard is populated with wagons, people and all the other things that bring a Goods Yard alive, I won't be worried too much about the actual building. Thanks for your comments.
  22. Adding Wills Scenic red brick detailing to the Goods Store arches
  23. John, I actually used the Metcalfe Semi-cut stone sheets on the Goods Yard store and I am really impressed with it. I applied it with 1-1 diluted woodworking glue and turned the sheets inwards around the arch openings. I then applied stonework to the rear sides also that are open and visible. I thought it saved all the hassle. I just need to find a similar product for the corrugated roof and roof lights - may need to kit bash to get it right. Heres an example of the progress so far, now these sections are free standing, nothing is fixed together yet.
  24. I visited the Station Centre in town where a model of mine is on permanent display now over 20years and the Superquick building papers are still very much in an acceptable standard. My Shed is buried in the shade of trees at the bottom of the garden so direct sunlight is minimal.
  25. I thought this was an excellent demo and well worth considering. I have a large Goods Store to cover and wasn't looking forward to trying to do it with Wills Scenic Sheets. This is probably a better way of doing it, considering the Wills sheets need painting anyway.
