  2. As much as I would, I have to pass. This month has been expensive. Two days in Dublin, concert tickets for September in Dublin, £400 car service and last of this years University bills for my daughter. I don't even think I'll make it to Bangor in April.
  3. UTA UG Class 0-6-0 No. 49 (Ex GN No. 149) at Omagh 1963. The ‘Up Platform’ on the right was the longest 
on the whole GNR system so carriages were parked in a siding as the curve of the platform was too sharp 
to allow safe boarding.
  4. Hi, thanks for all responses. I have been doing a lot of thinking and drawing at the lattice steel work on the passenger footbridge. Its really the only way that I can create a view blocker for the Enniskillen and Portadown line. I just need to use a little bit of modellers freedom and bring things forward along the platform. Will work though...

  8. North end of layout 400mm - South end 300mm
  9. The photographs show Omagh North layout. The first picture shows the incomplete bridge at the North end of the station where locomotives can exit this 'shunting layout' for the Derry Road. The is where I hope to store and turn my engine and stock. The other photograph shows the south end with the low relief goods shed buildings where locomotives can enter the shed openings and exit the layout (out of view) also. The plywood is open behind the shed. At each end I have limited space but I want to be able to basically turn the engine either mechanically or otherwise for the return to Omagh. Can anyone suggest a simple method, with least trouble.
  10. In terms of stock and building a collection, my plan is to pick up the occasional bargain and also to scratchbuild a collection of wagons that frequented the area, in my case Omagh. I am in the process of identifying and sourcing brass W-irons, axleboxes and parts to build at least one or more of every type of wagon I need. On a small shunting layout like Omagh North, long trains of wagons or passenger coaches are not possible. Therefore, I would appreciate any photographs of wagon detail, if possible from other forum members, please.
  11. I'm really gutted that I didn't get to hear about 00 Works earlier and maybe I could have put in an order for both locos also. There certainly are none left and nothing coming out until the end of the year. When were they first advertised and how long ago were orders placed? I don't suppose anyone has one for sale?

  15. I just met an old friend Leo Flanagan who in 1950 at 9 months old, lost his father when 5 permanent way men were killed. All five stepped into the path of the oncoming Derry train. It was a foggy morning and visibility was poor. The men were told to clean the line because 'someone important' was expected in the station that morning. He said his father jumped from the line in an attempt to clear the train but was dragged under. His mother visited him in hospital but he died the next day. What a sad day in the history of the railway in Omagh.
  16. Noel, I am assuming that the picture (TOP) is the real thing and the one below the model. The grass looks like it really is growing. What is the ballast type you're using - looks great!
  17. Leslie, I got a sample piece of Andy's 'System' that he kindly made up for me. Unfortunately the small DPDT switches are a bit fiddly for my 'sausage sized' fingers. In the meantime I have simply screwed a piece of electrician block connectors to each wire and it does the job until I find a suitable knob. Thanks for that Leslie.
  18. No better man to advise on paint, thanks Noel. I presume that I'm going for acrylic based paints, I imagine the oil based would be quite messy.
  19. Ok, everyone who has followed Omagh North. My track is laid, wired, tested and points now on mechanical wire and tube system. Am I right to go ahead with painting of the rails? I've no plans on buying an airbrush so can someone advise on a couple of things. 1. The correct paint/make/name to purchase 2. Best brush for the job 3. Do I avoid contact with sleepers?
  20. I saw the A380 in Adelaide airport last year while parked at Adelaide Airport, massive.
  21. I'm on the look out now for a small push/pull knob that I can slip over the ends of the wire to give me something to hold when operating the points. I'm thinking of a small knob with grub screw on the side that I can tighten to secure the wire. Should I trim off the small lugs on the peace points that are normally used when changing with finger tips?
  22. Thanks BurntheBox, just this moment finished the remainder of the layout and tested all track after wiring back together again. Everything runs well and its nice not having to stretch over the layout to manually change points.
  23. My God, its looks fantastic Kirley. Is this layout going to be on display in Bangor in April?
  24. Did you use Ratio points modified or is there a supplier out there doing Irish?
