Roxyguy, this was an absolute thrill to watch, you have done an amazing job and you couldn't have chosen a better background soundtrack . The trains run so smoothly and travel such distance. I love it.

I'm drawing this up in autoCad from a Dundalk engineers diagram. Is there anything that comes close on the market?

John-r, I think it's a shame that you travelled all the way from Tralee and didn't meet anyone from the forum. I travelled from Omagh which is nothing compared to your trip and would have gladly had a coffee with you. I was on my own but was aware that so many 'forum members' were around but knew nobody. I took some time to speak with Leslie McAllister, the lads at IRM models and Richard McLachlan. I think the forum could have had a table for members only to have a coffee. Maybe next year, but what a great event!

Any takers on a dimension for the timbers in the canopy above?

I stopped off today to talk to the folks from IRM in Bangor and they were two very nice lads. They looked delighted with their product and rightly so, a fantastic piece of Irish kit.

You could have stopped off indeed. Today I cleared the site of my old shed and am in the process of pricing the timber to build a new one. This is where the new layout will be housed so I've got to consider good quality materials including insulation. In the meantime, Omagh North is no more, track lifted, everything boxed away for a new beginning. No doubt, the Bangor show will give me plenty in inspiration. Where do you live?

Would anyone have a drawing showing the dimension of the typical timber canopy awning over many GN station platforms - as shown below. If no drawing exists, maybe someone could take a measurement from a 4mm scale one?

John, the building was demolished soon after I took these pictures and was replaced by 'The Station Centre' which is a youth club. Interestingly, they incorporated much of the 'railway' theme inside and out. Its a lovely building.

While making some attempt to start filing my negatives I came across some from Dec 1992 of the Goods Yard shed at Omagh. Heres just one of them showing the nice stonework and brickwork arches

Patrick, Its a very interesting project in many ways. I'm glad it interests you and over the next few days I hope to get the time to complete the main station platform drawings. Next step will be the timber station shelter on the Enniskillen line platform which is made up of a lot of tongue & grooved timber boarding and glazing.

I agree, N-gauge certainly has potential.

Starting work on the plans and elevations of the station buildings of Omagh General Station. I managed to get copy of the GNRi Engineers Drawings of the surveyed location and I'm drawing everything life size in AutoCad. This gives me the option to output to any scale. Its early days, but these drawings will keep me occupied until the new shed arrives and I'm up and running again.

Today, Omagh North ceased to exist when the GNRi lifting train arrived. Seen here pictured on top of the Engineers drawings of GNR(i) Omagh Station that I got from the Dundalk yard. Let the track planning for Omagh General Station begin.

I had a layout in an attic some 30+ years ago and I hated it. I would never use it again. My current attic is huge - a cut roof with no internal bracing, all old tradition rafters on purlins. I could in theory build a massive layout but I wouldn't start.

Kieran, breathtaking stuff here that inspires us all. Your entire thread will serve as great inspiration for me over the weeks, months and years to come. Well Done.

I'm waiting on a new garden shed to arrive - measuring 10' x 8'. When it arrives I will be fitting insulation into the voids and probably sheeting off most of the inside and insulating the internal roof surfaces. I need to provide some form of ventilation. Once I have cleared the foundation for the shed, I can also prepare the new base and install 4" high density foam which will be between ground and shed floor.

Our new neighbour Mike, a retired London city chef called in today. His wife died soon after they retired and moved to Ireland. He told me he had a model railway in his shed so he wanted to say hello and invite me over. He had a lovely little N-gauge layout which was probably about 3' x 2' and in that small space had three engines running, a long train of passenger coaches and quite a lot of wagon stock. The layout had several points, bridges and flyovers. I couldn't believe how much was crammed into such a small space and although it was quite small, compared to 00, I was really impressed by this busy little layout. Just think of what you could do on a bigger baseboard!

My only problem with N-gauge is the difficulty of the size vs. my eyesight.
