Fan grille

Hey guys.. First timer here. After trawling done deal and adverts for ages I eventually for a nice 071 loco. The only thing missing is the grille that goes over one of the cooling fans. I'm just wondering can you get that as a spare or has anyone got any tips on something that might work. Apart from that the model is like new. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan, 

Welcome to this community. The 071 class Murphy Models locos are hard to come by and the spares are even harden. You might try @WRENNEIRE on this forum. Alternatively you may be able to pick up a suitable etched one from one of the specialist suppliers at an exhibition or fashion one yourself using any type of fine mesh. Good luck with your purchase.

You could always give pipe screens a shot - don't know how close they are to the pattern of grille on the 071, but they are cheap for lots of them:

Maybe try some plaster tape.

Very fine black nylon mesh may be used in lingerie applications.

If you spot a likely-looking potential user, ask her if you can just have a quick look - do make clear that it is specifically for research purposes.

That's going to be a hard one! The grills on the 071 are a circular pattern not the usual square mesh type.

One could replace both with brass wire mesh- at least they will match?

The Fan grilles on the 071 model are a particular type GM pattern which is a circular mesh , see picture

Thanks everyone for getting back to me. I might try an etched option. 

When I eventually get around to it I'll show you the results.
