meathdane Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Hi all, I was approached by a member of the Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival who are very keen to have some Model railway layouts at the festival. The event takes place during the last weekend in September, the layouts will be in a secure building with barriers and volunteers to help manage the crowds. Unfortunately with my work schedule, I will only be present for one day, though I am hoping to have Bantry present on the Sunday at the very least. If anyone would like to have their layout present, the festival would love to have them and be very grateful, seemingly there is interest in the community to see these displays. If you would like to have your layout of any size, scale, or outline involved, send me a message and I will get you in contact with the events team. Thanks, Dane 2
dropshort105 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I'm building a layout in Dunshaughlin, I would be interested if it is finished by then. 3
Metrovik Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Less than 24 hours to go. My motley collection of prototypicalish rolling stock is awaiting with anticipation. 6

meathdane Posted Sunday at 18:09 Author Posted Sunday at 18:09 Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival is done, a massive thanks to @MikeO and Mike (apologies I'm not sure of your handle on the forum) @LNERW1, and @Metrovik for their displays and help with everything yesterday and today. As well as the forum users who popped by the put faces to names. Bantry got off to a shaky start but after a quick fiddle about we were up and away. Festival committee is already raving about it, as are the majority of the attendees. So much so there are already talks about expanding the event and being given a larger exhibit area for next year, as well as pulling in other non sporting hobbies to give people alternatives to GAA and sporting hobbies. So thank you all for attending and making it what it was, and keep an eye out, there'll be a call to try and get more layouts and hobbyists booked for next year. Thank you all! dropshort105 Posted Sunday at 20:11 Posted Sunday at 20:11 Sounds like this might be growing legs, count me in. 3
Metrovik Posted Sunday at 20:59 Posted Sunday at 20:59 It was a FANTASTIC weekend. A few huge thanks are in order. Firstly to @meathdane for the invite. Setting a deadline was the best thing that could have happened to me (without it god knows id still be ballasting!) and this was the perfect exhibition to start at. Also thanks for letting me hijack bantry, it was to get a proper run for a change! Secondly to @MikeO and Mike (I also don't know his forum handle) for wire cutters, tape etc (for when things inevitably went wrong!) and for providing good advice and great chats all weekend. Finally, the biggest thanks to @LNERW1 for being second operator, providing rolling stock and just being all around good company for the weekend. (Sorry if I got a little cross from time to time!) Great to see so many other forum members out as well! A few very kind and generous members on here. (You know who you are ) I can honestly say I didn't meet a single unpleasant person all weekend! As you can see the prototypical stock lasted about as long as anyone excepted.... Roll on next year! 7
Mike 84C Posted Sunday at 22:37 Posted Sunday at 22:37 Glad to see Bantry getting an outing and it performed after the shaky start. Been there done that! Keep up the good work lads! Mick. 1
Signal Post Posted Sunday at 23:24 Posted Sunday at 23:24 A few photos from the show today, no prizes for photographic excellence for me, I tend to get distracted when I am chatting to exhibitors and then forget to take the photo that I intended.....but that's part of the fun! A big thanks to @meathdane, @Metrovik, @LNERW1 and another gentleman whose name I omitted to get! It was great to see all three layouts, each very different but all inspirational, particularly nice to see the public and in particular family groups getting to see model railways, I'm sure many of the attendees would never have been to a dedicated model railway show so it gave the hobby great exposure in a local community event, well done, you are all great ambassadors for our hobby. I also enjoyed getting the chance to put names and faces to folks from this forum and discovering that a few other forum members live very close by! . 13
Galteemore Posted Monday at 07:26 Posted Monday at 07:26 Phil Parker, one of Britain’s leading model railway journalists, writes very favourably about small shows. I know what he means - both my gigs as a sole exhibitor have been at such. You can find some real gems, and Dunshaughlin looks like it’s getting set to be a fixture. There’s time for someone to develop a layout for next year …..;) 4 1

I'm quite excited about displaying next year. 5
MikeO Posted Monday at 19:24 Posted Monday at 19:24 A very enjoyable show. A steady stream of people during both days with lots of interest shown in all 3 layouts. It was also great to see so many young people there with their parents taking such interest in all that was going on. A good introduction to the hobby for potential new railway hobbyists both boys and girls. Got to meet @meathdane, @Metrovik, @LNERW1 in person. At big exhibitions this is not always possible. Hopefully next year there will be a few more layouts but not so many as to take away from the relaxed atmosphere that a small show generates giving both participants and visitors a chance to have a good chat. The addition of some non-railway exhibits, especially those that reflect local interests, will enhance the attraction of the show. Well done to all those involved in the organising and running of the festival and to the local visitors who were all so friendly and welcoming. MikeO 5
LNERW1 Posted Monday at 19:39 Posted Monday at 19:39 What a show. Thanks so much to @Metrovik for bringing me along, @meathdane for being so friendly and helpful, @Signal Post for your friendliness, @dropshort105 for your generosity, and @MikeO and Mike for your helpfulness. Thanks also to anyone involved in the show who might be reading, and to Tristan and his friends (again if you’re reading) who provided plenty of company and encouragement. It was nice to be the other side of the backscene and I look forward to meeting more people in future. As many have said, it’s nice to put a face to a forum handle. Hopefully I’ll see you all (and even more people) next year. 7
Patrick Davey Posted Tuesday at 09:58 Posted Tuesday at 09:58 (edited) Sounds like a great day - well done all. All the layouts look great! Edited Tuesday at 09:59 by Patrick Davey 3 2
