Metrovik Posted Saturday at 14:54 Posted Saturday at 14:54 Last night I watched the classic film "The taking of Pelham 123." It was a great movie, centered around the Hijacking of a NYC Subway. It was very nicely filmed with alot of continuous shots that you just don't see nowadays. The soundtrack was great (very 70s). The writers clearly had more than the usual Hollywood level knowledge of Railways, and inspired by this film, I said I'd try and start a discussion, What are the Best Films centered around Railways out there? 2 Quote
Galteemore Posted Saturday at 16:14 Posted Saturday at 16:14 (edited) The above is one of my favourites. All done using real locos and stock, and the depot was actually blown up - SNCF wanted rid of it so struck a deal with the movie crew. Several other locos are destroyed in the course of the movie. Other movies worth watching for trains if not plot: Von Ryan’s Express, The Cassandra Crossing, First Great Train Robbery (filmed in Ireland with a specially restored 184 and cameo from 186), Train of Events, The Ladykillers. Id had a feeling someone would bring up The Great Train Robbery! A personal favourite of Mine. Quote
leslie10646 Posted Saturday at 17:27 Posted Saturday at 17:27 (edited) The Train is especially good, worth endless rewatches. Obviously The First Great Train Robbery (aka 1GTR) is a must for Irish enthusiasts, the book is a good read of a clever plot by Michael Crichton Train of Events is wonderful for its LMS scenes, lots of them, as one of the heroes (Jack Warner, aka Dixon of Dock Green) is a Top link driver. Closely Watched Trains (1966), is set in Czechoslavia during WW2, but is more about Sex than Steam! It won the Oscar for foreign film the year it came out. If you're into French steam and like Emile Zola then La Bete Humaine is for you - again the hero cum villain is a Top Link driver - see on YouTube - makes the 1GTR look tame! Put the following into your browser: Driving the État 231-592 in 1938: La Bête Humaine / The Human Beast Highlights Cab Ride Thanks, @Metrovik you've just used up another half hour of my life - so many mind-blowing snips on YouTube (this one's long and mesmerising!). Now, back to important Provincial wagons work. Edited Saturday at 17:31 by leslie10646 1 1 Quote
Galteemore Posted Saturday at 17:36 Posted Saturday at 17:36 Nor should we forget this — set in Ireland but filmed near Basingstoke. When we lived there I paid regular pilgrimage to the site. 3 Quote

Horsetan Posted Saturday at 20:41 Posted Saturday at 20:41 There's also, I think, Return Of The Pink Panther, which has a lengthy scene involving a prisoner's escape from what is ostensibly a French cross-country train, but which is obviously a C class and some Laminates.... 1 1 Quote
