Photos of Kilkenny-Maryborough (Portlaoise) during its closure.

Hi all,

A friend of mine is working on a project for college and he is looking for photos of the Kilkenny-Maryborough (Portlaoise) line as it was being shutdown. The only photos I am aware of are of the final train from Abbeyleix, and a few of it before and after its shutdown. 

If anyone could point me in the right direction to where he might some, or even add them to this thread, it would be greatly appreciated.

One way is via IRRS archive on Flickr (need to be IRRS member). That often yields such things

The IRRS is a great source of pictures as well as the O’Dea collection in the National Library this can be viewed on line .

I'll let him know. I might join myself also. Though it wouldn't be much good for my own productivity. I'd lose hours looking through it.

iirc this book has some info and photos, think one was a Sulzer in silver at Attanagh. Hard to find as it's long out of print, IRRS library should have it as would libraries in the Tipperary area.

The book 'Lost Railways of Co. Dublin and the South East' by Stephen Johnson has some  shots of Abbeyleix and Mountmellick (two pictures of each) - the famous 1900s shot of a train at the platform and a 1960's view of the front of Abbeyleix station from the road, and a 1939 shot of a train and crew together with a 1960s shot of a railtour in Mountmellick. There's also a shot of Kilkenny loco shed.
