I have just read in today's e-mail from The Economist that you tax payers in the Republic are about to expand your Navy and open two new bases.

I await the first member of this forum to model one of these places AND the ships .........

The UK could sell you a couple of aircraft carriers which we don't need - what on earth are we doing East of Suez?

Big island and smaller island- none of us have the manpower and there’s as much in mothballs as is working. Least ways there’s no huge white elephant carriers in Ireland. What’s the Russkis doing? Going round cutting all the undersea cables, that’s what.

If aircraft carriers are to be bought, someone needs to carefully check that the toilets work...

The main thing is that it comes with its air wing. We can leave the carrier itself parked in Dún Laoghaire and the lads can use the jacks in the DART station

It'll have to be a pretty huge carrier to operate the Irish squadron!

 

I can only begin to contemplate the extras that could be charged for on board.

Some might remember this trial run along the west coast a few years ago.

That will have been a sharp landing where wearing seat belts would have been essential.

There is a school of thought in Ireland - mostly amongst those who will always loathe the British and would do anything to undermine them - that the Russians should be invited to set up military bases in Ireland. That way Ireland gets to have serious military hardware on its soil without having to pay for it (always a plus), and also gets to keep the British on their toes.

Or get the Chinese in and annoy the British, Russians and Americans in one simple manouevre?

The obvious thing is for you guys to become the 51st (?) State and dear Donald will build airbases etc in no time.
