Mayner Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Just watch the rough riding in the cab,I wonderis it the track or the bogies on 164 I think the camera man may have had the shakes . Bogies the roughest running was as he powed up on the newly laid CWR for the climb out of Headford Junction. A light weight freight bogie was used under the Bo Bos and Yanks to keep within the axle load down, there is a story of the driver of a 121 on the up Enterprise in the early 60s having to make an emergency brake application approaching Malahide. The loco was swaying so badly as he crossed the Broadmeaows he thought that the cab might strike the rather tight bridge at the Dublin end of the station. Quote
wiggy Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Just watch the rough riding in the cab,I wonderis it the track or the bogies on 164 Looks like a normal cab ride to me. It looks worse than it is due to the hand held camera. You have no room for a tri-pod in the cab. Check out the last bit of my footage on this one as it picks up speed. Wiggy. Quote
Blu Bianco Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Looks pretty normal to me, the cab always moved around fairly freely on the 141's/181's and I'd imagine it looks worse inside than it does outside. Youtube some how has changed all me videos to private. Just had to change them all back to public. It all so won't let me remove a subscribers video 'remove it from feed'. Not sure what is going on with them. Here is another one. Wiggy. Edited June 15, 2013 by wiggy Quote

Just a guess but sounds like a typical software update, in-house with them, which has jumbled things up for some! Edited June 15, 2013 by Blu Bianco Quote
jhb171achill Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 A 141 or 121 at speed would shake the teeth out of your head - I remember from numerous cab runs both on the main line and secondary routes. Quote
thewanderer Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Looks perfectly normal to me Memories I could almost smell the interior of a small GM while watching that, whilst grabbing onto my chair to stop being thrown off. Quote
jhb171achill Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 It's an experience that you can still have at Downpatrick any time 146 is running. DCDR sells footplate passes for the day. Usually it's steam on the public services, but 146 or A39 (and occasionally a "G") are regulars on the 12:30 empty stock to Inch Abbey, and the 17:30 equivalent. Quote

jhb171achill Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 True....! I suppose in this day of railcars, something's better than nothing! Quote
