DiveController Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Can anyone offer an opinion in whether these (kinda) cheap and cheerful timber wagons at all resemble what ran on IR?
0 BosKonay Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 With a lick of oxide and some highlights on the stanchions I think they look well. You had to ignore the short length
0 BosKonay Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 http://www.shapeways.com/model/89699/cie-2-axle-timber-wagon-oo-scale.html?li=search-results&materialId=6 Is another option for the 20' version. I've a few of these and they are good too.
0 Junctionmad Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I thought all IR timber wagons were bogie types ? By the way when were timber wagons introduced. I saw them in Waterford but it seemed recent
0 BosKonay Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 There is a thread on the timbers here http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/1212-Four-Wheeler-Timber-wagons
0 Junctionmad Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) are they on 12 ' wheelbase flats, They don't look like the 20T container flats so were they derived from a different chassis ? Edited September 5, 2014 by Junctionmad
0 murrayec Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Hi Junctionmad Here is a link to some real close up details- bogied wagons I know but detail that some may like to have;- http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/3135-Detail-pictiures-of-log-wagons-at-Kildare-21-April?p=49498&viewfull=1#post49498 Eoin
0 DiveController Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 I kinda thought that these might not be that similar when I posted. Some great shots for the scratchbuilders! Looked at all the threads and links and realize that these neither resemble the short (20'?) wagons nor the double bogie ones, which I prefer. The shapeways one looks prettty similar to my eye but I was hoping for a RTR without too much work/time!
0 Mayner Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 are they on 12 ' wheelbase flats, They don't look like the 20T container flats so were they derived from a different chassis ? The timber swap bodies were fitted on 27301-27767 series 22'6" 14' wb skeletal flats the last 4w wagons built. These had a sightly lower frame to carry 8'6" containers and a longer wheelbase to improve stability at speed. The channel framing of the swap bodies sat down over the wagon like a saddlebag and hid most of the wagon solebars and underframe.

Were these flat wagons donor or did cie custom build them , is there a picture anyway of the bare flat wagon
0 DiveController Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 This is all good stuff, folks! Keep posting..
0 aclass007 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 SSM are about to release bogie flats in the near future. These would be a good starting point for building timber wagons, as opposed to spending money on something that doesn't resemble Irish stock.....
0 DiveController Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Yes, I see the error of my ways and agree with you, A-class. Maybe wait on those (and some time to begin building...)
