great pics Wanderer - favourite has to be 077 with the taras at Laytown=D

Cheers heir. It was a nice couple of days out and about.

I had to make a day trip to London on Wednesday 23rd April 2014.

For something a bit different, plus suiting my destination in East London. I choose to fly Aer Lingus Regional from Dublin to Southend Airport, returning that night from London Heathrow with Aer Lingus.

Pictures from the day include:

- Southend Airport

- Southend Victoria

- Stratford, includes 90045 passing with a freightliner service.

- Various stations on the Eastern End of the Central Line.

- Liverpool Street.

- Holborn

- Heathrow T123.

- and finally a London Transport influence in Dublin Airport.

One of my old haunts Wanderer, great pics!

While London used to be my haunt in the 1980's, it was a trip to Stratford in 1987 shortly after the opening of the DLR that sticks in my mind.

On that day the Network Thamesday on Saturday 12th September 1987 took place on the Southbank of the River Thames (see http://www.srpublicity.co.uk/nse/nse08.htm). After visiting the South Bank, my mother took me down to Tower Gateway for a trip on the two week old Docklands Light Railway to Island Gardens and then Stratford. At Stratford we said goodbye to Mum's friend and her son (who lived nearby) and got a 2EPB on the North London Line back to Richmond to get home. My memories of a rather windswept and rundown Stratford Low Level while waiting for the 2EPB to come from North Woolwich are a massive contrast to what Stratford is today. Those platforms are now part of an expanded DLR, next door is the Jubilee Line and the whole area has been transformed by the biggest sporting event in the World.

Time stands still for no man :)

ah go on and stick up a pic!

Evening folks,

Two updates this evening.

- A lunchtime visit to Rosskelton today for 22016 and 22043.

- Railtours Ireland launched a new tour last Saturday called The Dublin Bay Hopper. They claim it to be the world's first exclusive hop on hop off train tour!

The tour will operate each Saturday at two hourly intervals from 0900 to 1500 hours and uses specially branded EMU Unit 8107. Railtours Ireland Staff will be on board with full commentary throughout. Tickets cost €19, valid on The Dublin Bay Hopper, and all DART trains Saturday and Sunday.

I wasn't able to make it to Dublin on Saturday, but Railtours Ireland's Shane Roberts was out and about to take some photographs and he has kindly let me use them on the website.
