Midland Man Posted March 18, 2020 Share Posted March 18, 2020 Hello all Due to covid 19 I have got time of so i can start to finish projects and start new ones the first one os a small diorama of a house.All it need is some fake concreate and detailing like figures and more scenery as well as painting the underside. Next there is a new diorama based on branch between Ballaghaderreen and kilfee juntion. It is based on the part of the between Island road and Edmondstown as that part of the line was all enbankment. right now the model is only at its starting phase but progress will move prity fast (hopefully)here is a picture of the model so far. hope you like. 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We have closed down my local model club now, so with no pub, cafe, sport, club, church etc, alternatives need to be found. Meanwhile the branch lime diorama is moving slowly I have givin a undercoat before i put senic materials onto it.As well as that I am going to start track laying. Midland Man Posted March 22, 2020 Author Share Posted March 22, 2020 Hello all With the diorama on hold I decided to work on some carriges and wagons.The firat job is a H van in green witch was an experenmental idea so they would go with the coaches. I though I would do it as I saw on on a differnet topic on this form. when the paint is dry I will pit decals on it. Next job is to clean up this Bredin coach.This is one of my favorite coaches I have as I built it when I was 9 years old and have kept it as at the time I thought it was class. The CIE stripe was hand painted using a thin brush and a very stedy hand.The body and windows are somewhere but right now I will be working on the cleaning up and the new paint job. The last job is probaly the simplested.It is to fix and hang up a picture that was a present from my ant in England. It is a colection of wills cigarette cards from the early 1920s .It includes a A1 with original tender ,A SECR 2-6-0 that would have looked like the midland vertion only in different livery and My favorite is 461 in the green livery that she never carried. If accuracy is preferred, the roof would be a very dark grey, almost black, same as carriages. Ordinary wagons had grey roofs if grey body, and after 1970 brown roofs with brown body. The first image is the revel paint (sorry that it is blurred) the second is a is a pic of a model made after the death of Fry but using so GSR paint he got in Inchicore. Midland Man Posted March 24, 2020 Author Share Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) I am thinking of going into 7mm sratch building soon as I may build a model of Moate railway station in 1920. the reason is that I use to walk down there when I was 3 or 4 years old before they put in the cycle way does anyone know where I could get pics of the station at that time? Midland Man Posted March 24, 2020 Author Share Posted March 24, 2020 More work on the Breden coach here on side of it has been repainted first in grey and second in green( the reason it is painted in grey is so the green sticks 10 times better and I have no primer) As you can sea some parts around window are uneven and will be sanded down.I have also noticed that the flying snail on the green H van is on the wrong way so it must be fixed Going back to the coach the roof will be the original paint job that I first did it as it came out pritty good. Exteriors were red - apparently a cherry red. I’ve seen a sample and it looks about right for that. Larger areas (lighter) colours on the likes of signal cabins or other wooden buildings or sheds were a sort of creamy light beige or stone colour. On a layout, slightly weathered light cream or off-white is probably best. Station fencing was this colour too, or possibly white. Ask him - Clifton is extremely knowledgeable about books and he should have something at least. Ernie Shepherd did a good history of the MGWR some years ago. My grandad was givin a copy of Ernie Shepherd book before he died and that book as well as rails to Achill made me love the Midland great western railway but I never knew about Clifton Flewitt but I may have already met him when renewing me membership stuff at the Blackrock show and I think I found a match to the red and cream liverys did they look like this and this It looks like buffer red but anyway I may as well start me crazy idea of building 7mm.I have found some old drawing of the station from 2011 I think(you may think it is not that old but whith the amount of suvays on that station) and a old station pic hope you all like. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Midland Man Posted March 25, 2020 Author Share Posted March 25, 2020 I thought I should do something more 60s/70s tonight so I have decided to woden coach in orange like this The carrige is a daapol kit and was originally in green but is now going to be orangle like in the pic so I must first sand the paint down and look gor revell orange but finding that paint can wait tommorow. hope you all like. I am also thinking of exending my diorama of Inishlyre with my spare time. It may have a platform with shelter. Midland Man Posted April 4, 2020 Author Share Posted April 4, 2020 Hey all just want to say that I am going to go into scratch building.It going to be a MGWR A1 class in either MGWR blue or black with red lining The chassis is Triang a M7 as It is the only thing I got. My M7 was srapt by me after the electric coughs fire as the previous owner over oiled it. So It will get a new body made from plaster card and a brass boiler right now it just in bits but let's hope something will come of it.
