  1. Just curious, but would the 3D printing method used on the 20t brake vans not be a more suitable method of manufacturing for a detailed model of the tin vans? I would suspect the brass element of the tin van kits is putting some people off ordering them.
  2. Watching this with interest as I will need a few of these. Hopefully, the start of a range of detailed RTR items from that period that would never realistically be factory made by any of the mainstream manufacturers.
  3. Sounds interesting. Have always loved seeing Barry's photos in the IRRS Journal over the years. They are also mostly produced in colour from around 2000 onwards, which is also great.
  4. Hope that serious treat materialises. The 1970's period is especially fascinating where old world H wagons, Palvans, Horse Boxes and Bulleid Opens slowly gave way to the new CIE built modern wagon fleet. Freight was always the more interesting part of railway operations for me anyway, so you definitely have one book sold if it materialises.
  5. Probably means that it was test run. A lot of UK based model shops would test run locos before mailing them; doesn't mean that a new loco is then classed as used before you receive it. In any case, should only concern you if you intend to bid on the item, win the item, and then find out that it has signs of use despite being advertised as new. Still not an issue as the ebay gaurantee covers such a situation in terms of returning the item.
  6. That's an amazing piece of reference material. I was actually browsing IRFN over the last few days to try and get an understanding of what ran when and in what livery as regards the 1950-1970 period, but you have saved me the trouble now. Many thanks for your efforts. One question though, what does the numbers in some of the panels refer to e.g. 187M, 1396 - is it a paint code? Perhaps this post or thread should be stickied for future reference on the forum.
  7. Try @WRENNEIRE on this site. Pretty sure he has a few for sale or at least he did about a week ago.
  8. Think I know which one you're talking about. Potentially a commission by either IRM or Adrian at some point in the future.
  9. Love this. Surely a potential one for IRM to commission in the future?
  10. What method was used to make the AOA models; transfers or something else?
  11. That's brilliant news. I suspect these will be sold out before they even arrive in stock. Hopefully, a positive sign for further Irish based vehicles/buses from IRM.
  12. Heljan already produce these tank wagons in 4mm scale. Same as the tanks used on ESSO North Wall-Sligo & (Oranmore) Claremorris oil trains. https://www.hattons.co.uk/203086/heljan_1154_4_wheel_a_tank_44290_in_esso_grey_with_1980s_hazchem_symbols_weathered/stockdetail.aspx The Class B wagons are the correct size for the Irish wagons if I remember correctly; the Class A wagons were longer in length so unprototypical for the Irish wagons. Previous IRM thread here :
  13. The F5 function on a MM 201 sound chip is for the compressor. The manuals are available as downloads on the MM website. Dynamic braking is not a feature on either the 071 or 201 Class locos. As already eluded to in an earlier reply, the 201's did have a form of dynamic braking, but this was disabled shortly after they entered service.
  14. Each to their own, I suppose. If you are happy with your Silver Fox purchases and they meet your needs, that's great. However, the concensus of many other modellers is that they are inaccurate. The cab shape on their A and C Class locos has the totally wrong profile. Their weedspray van gives a very general appearance when viewed from a distance of the real thing, but on closer inspection, doesn't really pass the accuracy test, and would appear rather insufficient alongside the highly detailed weedspray wagons that IRM have released.
  15. It's probably best that the picture is fuzzy.
  16. Maybe get people to put their money where their mouths is and set up a pay in advance order scheme for the van. If the required number of orders is not reached, then people either get their money back or can transfer the money to pay for another IRM item or items. Weedspray wagons look excellent, and is a very niche item also for the IRM guys to release.
  17. This layout never ceases to amaze me. Simply stunning.
  18. It was. Forgot about that one.
  19. Loco no. 071 only ever released in black/silver livery by MM.
  20. The MM 071 is an excellent model, but MM have none left in their warehouse, so its basically a case of checking what stockists have left in stock, ebay or the various model shows if you are after a particular model. The MM model accurately reflects the class until the end of 2015 detail wise, but would not be entirely protypical for the real locos in their current specification.
  21. Apologies, misunderstood what you meant. Yes, MM only produced two IR liveried 071's.
  22. The livery on the MM 088 loco is probably far too light a shade of colour as the real 071's, when delivered, had a more brownish tint to their paint colour than the CIE tan used on everything else that was black and tan at that time.
  23. All 071 Class locos carried IR livery during the IR period and for a time in the IE period. The 073 model reflects the loco in the IR period. The main differences in it's current condition being the marker lights, removal of cab handrails and handbrake wheel.
  24. Don't confuse the model liveries with the real things. When the 071's were delivered, they were in a different shade to the Mk.2's, but when they were repainted at Inchicore, they then matched the current CIE liveried coaches and locos at that time. There has been much debate on here about the orange shade used on the MM Mk.2's being incorrect. The MM Mk.2's should match the livery shade on 086, but are more akin to the orange shade used on carriages and locos in IR and IE period.
  25. The top three items for anyone into the current scene has to be ICR's, current spec liveried 201's and current spec liveried 071's; none of which are readily available RTR at present, although IC liveried 201's were available previously, but at a time when there was possibly less Irish scene modellers than there are today, so a lot of modellers probably missed out on these. After that, you have the various DMU and EMU classes. We will have the weedspray wagons being released from IRM which certainly ran on the network until very recently.
