1. Thanks all. Opened an account, and tried the German option, but still no joy. So I've sent an email, will keep you posted!
2. Hi guys, Has anyone on here any experience with the 'Miniatur Wonderland' webshop? They have some hugely discounted Kibri stuff on there right now. I've tried to purchase a few bits, but I can't convert the sale. You put in all your details, and when the option to pay comes up you click on 'pay by card'. It tells you that a secure window will open, which does, but a message saying 'cannot process this order' appears. Anyone purchased here recently?
3. It's great to see some freight activity going on as we enter 2014. I really thought a couple of years ago that it was all over, but this video shows there is still a few bits of interest to be seen on our railways! Great vid there gm171kk and looked like a good day to out!
4. Jaysus is right! I've been scratching away for the past couple of years to try and build up a collection of stock, and I love scratch-building, but holy cow Glenderg, the standard of work and craftsmanship is on a different planet to the rest of us- amazing!! I'm especially upset by the donelli cranes, because I've had a go at scratch building them recently but Jesus they look dog rough compared to the one you weathered! No seriously, brilliant work. I hope you don't judge us mortals too harshly when you see our efforts!!
5. Here's a link to yet another set of pictures I've never seen before, with some great shots of rarely photographed PW machines for Heirflick, some great reference picture for anyone building the SSM inspection car at the moment, and a most unusual bogie tank wagon, possibly an early weedspray rake? (just a guess) http://jandjcottrell.zenfolio.com/p487224326
6. Enniscorthyman, tend to agree with you. As per Davids picture on the previous page, I have highlighted what appears to be a run-round headshunt down the Wexford town end of the station. Looks like a recent installation alright. I know through the 90's there used to be some funny maneuvers here when the bagged cement called. Either a loco from a Dublin/Rosslare Train was sometimes used to 'free' the loco of the cement, or it would run on to Rosslare to run round. There would have to be a run round facility now for the ballasting to be stabled there, otherwise they would require 2 locos. One again, if anyone has photos or could scetch the current layout that would be most helpful!
7. Hi David (Wexfordloco10) super shots as always! Again, and after looking at the images above, I'm not understanding the track layout at the station. If you have the time, or if anyone else is familiar with it, can you explain the current track layout to me at Wexford station? Google earth and osi.ie don't give a clear picture. Surely it would be logical to have a run-round loop here, but I'm 99% sure that this is not the case!
8. Hi all. The owner of this shop was interviewed on the radio this morning, and it might have some potential here for the various bits of cottage industry going on with the many of the members. http://3dprintingdublin.ie/3dprinting/ There a lots of things I would like to have, but don't have the CAD (or other drawing software skills) to bring to life as an actual model. Similarly, there are many people on here (Nigel and his school buses as an example) who have the skill but will struggle with the cost. Would it be possible for the various designers on here to make their designs available to this shop? To get a return I would suggest that a royalty is paid each time one of their items is printed. For example, I want 2 school buses. I go to this shop and they print for me, based on Nigel's design. Let's say Nigel gets a Euro for each print. By doing it this way, we the modellers can pick from a library of stuff we want, and hopefully the fact that they are printing it here in Ireland would reduce the costs involved. I suggest a 'royalty' based system because it rewards the time and effort that goes into producing these drawings, and would encourage more drawing to be produced. If the designer just sold his drawing, it can be used over and over again without him seeing the benefit. As this is all new technology it's a learning curve for all of us, but seems to be becoming more and more accessible every day! I might go and visit this place over the weekend to find out some more, and will report back!
9. Orange windscreen wiper- brilliant!
10. Jesus Des, fantastic stuff!!! I'll have me one of those please! However.... Will ya get on with the ammonia's!!!!!! (no pressure like!)
11. also spotted 072 with one autoballaster in the depot ......the shortest ballast train ever? Heirflick contributed this picture on another thread, so it's got me thinking, how long more will it take Irish Rail to kill off the old orange livery that we all love? I love this picture because it shows the latest logo applied to the auto ballasters and the orange door on 072, nearly taunting the marketing and PR people at IE! Please post any images taken from now on of any 'IR/IE black and orange' that might still be kicking about on the network, excluding preservation stock of course! Will be interesting to see how many more years the livery lives on! (I suppose technically the mk3's still count, don't want to upset members who still hold out hope for them ever being used here again!)
12. Just reading over this again, FYI there are great views over the Noth Wall yard from Costa Coffee in the Point Village, attached to the cinema there. For some reason it seems to be the only window on the back of the entire complex, but you can see right down across the entire yard. Not sure how they would be if you took out a big camera and start snapping away, but at €3+ for a coffee I'd be making myself nice and cosy for an hour or two!
13. Thanks Popeye and John! Yeah, I actually forgot about the SSM van, that looks like a good place to start! I'll pm you over the weekend John for one of your vans too. The Park Royal looks great Popeye, and looking at all the fiddley bits underneath, might start with something a bit easier first! Thanks for the link as well John.

15. A side question, is there a run around loop at Wexford station again? Am I right in thinking this wasn't the case through the 90's and 2000's?
16. Hi guys! I'm going stir-crazy at the moment as new house equals no modelling and no money! Anyways, I'll keep dreaming about the layout I'll have one day soon... In the mean time I've been slowly building up stock and doing some scratch building, and I love working with plasticard, but even thats been wrapped up for the moment in all the chaos of a move, all boxed away and all over the place! So last weekend I finally got to carve out a little bit of space in the shed, so I at least have a little bit of workbench space, with some lighting and a heater installed. So I'm looking to get stuck in to a project, and one thing I would like to have on my layout is a small heritage line, with a little yard, really to show off models that wouldn't ordinarily belong in the era I want to model. So I'm thinking about trying a brass kit, which I've never tried before, and have absolutely no experience of working with. So what's involved? What kind of tools am I going to need? I was thinking about a Worsley Works Park Royal or Laminate Coach, mostly because I know how they look, and there are plenty of reference pics available. Am I being ambitious as a first build? All input greatly appreciated!
17. I agree Eiretrains, the train with the trunking would be a most interesting train to model. On that subject, I love freight, and I am amazed at the weird and wonderful images this site has thrown up over the last couple of years. The 10 to 15 years around the introduction of the 001s and C201s makes for some fantastic and unusual consists- I'm surprised it is not modelled more. I guess it's a period that not many of us remember, and would require a lot of scratch building and ingenuity on behalf of the modeller! It's a period that site member Patrick (down in NZ? Oz?) has captured really well- I'd love to see his take on some of the wagons and consists pictured!
18. Thanks for that Eiretrains. I might be getting mixed up. The Mill itself closed in 1963, but if the line was lifted in 1953 then no deisels :-(
19. Haven't come across these pics before: http://www.drehscheibe-foren.de/foren/read.php?17,4175312 Some great shots of various motive power- and may open the 'What colour brown for 071's' debate again!
20. Noted Broithe! (The person who was hired to write this post has been fired!)
21. I'm always full of questions so here goes... Looking at the history of the D&SER and I was just reading up on the branch from Woodenbridge to Shillelagh. It closed to passangers in 1944 I think but kept open for freight until 1963. The freight flow was to Aughrim, and specifically Fogarty's Mills (Flour). What has suddenly made me interested is the closure date of the line, I'm wondering would it have seen an deisel locomotives in the last few years of its life? Also, what type of wagons would have been used at this stage? Any help appreciated!
22. Thanks Garfield! So the question is... Which came first? The weed spray or the tool van? I'm assuming after final use on the weed spray it got left in the sidings a Hueston?
23. Can someone help me out here- am I right in thinking that a variation of one of these 4 wheelers ended up on the 90's formation of the weed spray train? I know I've a pic somewhere. I would be looking for 1 kit for this purpose please John. (will pm you) Edit: just re-read your post, I'd be interested in a second to model the Hueston Tool van aswell.

New IÉ logo...

Haven't been on the railway in ages, but have just passed Fairview Dart Depot and spotted a 4-car Dart set with the new logo applied and the word 'DART' next to it in an awful font. Wasn't expecting it so no photo I'm afraid. Also surprised at how much graffiti there was on the rolling stock- at least 8 vehicles showing serious amount of damage.
25. Well done indeed to all concerned!! Without getting on to too much detail, I'm assuming there are some costs associated with running the site? Is there an element of philanthropy from the founding members? Again, however the magic of d'internet works, I thoroughly enjoy the site, it's content, and the interaction! Great to see the stats too.
