  1. I see an interesting piece in the May 1973 edition about the (yet to be built) Tara mines site in Navan. Originally the ore was to be shipped from a new rail-connected port facility at Mornington, south of Laytown. Any ideas as to why this never came to pass? Would be a good fictional layout idea!
  2. Can you just remind me, how do I get in contact with Jim to give an order? (PM me the details if you don't wish to publish his details for all to see)
  3. Attended the show today, and couldn't agree more with the sentiments above. A really great show, well laid out and something for everyone. It was great to see lots of families there aswell. The finished O'Connell Street tram layout has really come to life since the first time I saw it, really impressive! Also got to meet And chat with Dave and Eoin (baseboards and Darts) great to see people getting up off their behinds and trying something new. (Glazed Dart model is fantastic! Price is a whole other topic!) Staying on topic, would highly recommend a visit if you have time tomorrow! And don't bring your wallet, because like Warbonnet, I'm sitting here now wondering how I'm gonna feed myself for the next 2 weeks! Lots of bargains to be had!
  4. Hi Kirley. I'm watching the progress of you layout with equal amounts of admiration and envy! As you said at the start of this thread, it's a lifetimes ambition finally being realized! Can you tell me how your shed has worked out while all the modeling has been going on? How is it in the cold weather/warm weather? Anything you would do different?! Also, would you be willing to share a rough track plan of what you have in place? I'm amazed at how much you seem to have fitted in. I'm hoping to get round to kitting out a 16' x 9' room/shed (need to kit out the house first, shed is probably in better shape right now!) and I'm encouraged by how much diorama and scenery you have in that shed! Keep up the good work! Dave182
  5. Wow, well done with that! I am seriously interested! Can't wait to hear final pricing. Eoin, will an unpowered 2 car set be available?
  6. Thanks Rich, Warbonnet. Seems to be good availability of SW 1500's on eBay, so I'll plough on. Would be interested to see how far you got Glenderg, making me slightly nervous now!
  7. Found some drawings in the resources section of this site (which I never realized existed before now!) Link here: http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/content.php/238-121-Class-Locomotive-Drawings
  8. Good Evening all! I'd love to be posting in the 'layout' section of the site, as I've finally move from apartment to a house. But dreams v reality has kicked in, and I ain't gonna be building a layout this side of Christmas! Anyways, I will have plenty of time to be adding to my collection of rolling stock, and a big gap in my collection is a 121. I've been plugging away with scratch built plasticard projects and am growing in confidence with each build. So... Contemplating a 121 class. 1. Anyone can provide me with drawings or measurements? 2. Any suggestions for an appropriate chassis? I've a new workbench area set up for myself and camera is up and running so will post plenty of pics as I go along, and will lean heavily on the collective knowledge of this site. Thanks in advance! 9. Just to avoid any confusion can the above post be edited... The Model Railway Society of Ireland in association with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is proud to be hosting a Model Railway & Hobbies exhibition on August 24th & 25th 2011 at the offices of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council/Comhairle Chontae Dhún Laoghaire Ráth an Dúin, County Hall, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin. ... reads 2011 in the text
  10. Hey guys, Anyone picked up on this? I read an article on the latest MRH email recently about the following company and where they are going with train control. Basically saying 'is this the first serious challenge to DCC?' sound interesting- running your locos using Wi Fi technology! http://www.crest-electronics.net/about.html
  11. Josefstadt you legend! Thanks for that, that's the one alright! Sulzer, thanks for that info too. Anyone know if this layout still exists? It looks like the work of the Wexford Model Railway club, judging by the stock running on it.
  12. I've trawled the internet and still can't find ant reference. If I remember right, we had a 'picture of the month' on one of the former sites, and a picture featured here for a while- it showed 2 141's on a track panel train passing through the station. The station model captured brilliantly the signal box and footbridge, and I think the cement store featured as well.
  13. Hi Patrick, I'll try get my hand on a copy and have a look.
  14. Hi guys. There were some pictures on one of the old sites featuring a layout with Arklow Station modelled. Anyone able to tell me more about it? I think it may have been a club layout, just wondering if it is still in existance? Can't find pictures on the old site, but the layout may not have had 'Arklow' in its name. Any help appreciated!
  15. Kinda following on from the other post re commisioning releases, I have the following question: is there much difference 'from the waste down' between a 141 and a 121? Are they the same length? Similar bogies? I'm wondering if an MM 141/181 could be used as a decent representation of a 121 should a suitable body solution be made available? (just trying to thing of ways to help MM sell some more stock so that they can commision some more great models!!!)
  16. From what I see in Marks Models Rathcoole there is still a considerable amount of the original twin-pack to move. That's a lot of money tied up that can't be released to commission a further run. 'Ireland' is a dirty word in the business world at the moment when it comes to securing credit, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were required to pay in full before commissioning begins. It's a big risk for a small business. I would also suggest that this is Paddy Murphys biggest issues right now, especially with regards to producing a 121 for example. We are a small group (Irish modellers) with a finite budget. The lads like Marks and Murphy Models can only go on current sales to try and predict demand for future releases.
  17. Just wondering if anyone has ever told Dapol of the importance of this kit to Irish Modellers? (By 'told', I mean at a formal level). Surely they could run of say 1000 units with just the chassis? Just a thought.
  18. Bloody Hell, fantastic work and I'm ever so slightly jealous!
  19. Scahalane, thanks for clarifying that! (I've edited my post above to reflect your info)
  20. Is that an 'Orange' windscreen wiper I see?! Someone in the paintshop having a laugh perhaps?? The IR orange livery lives on!
  21. Wexford70, I've been doing a lot of research into this over the past 12 months. The tanks were delivered in the 'NET' Livery ('79 maybe, early 80's??) as per this photo: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2322557 Here is a picture labelled 'ex-Works' pictured at Limerick Junction. It has no logo. This contradicts the first picture. I was then thinking that maybe its just been re-sprayed in Limerick works, byt they would hardly go to the trouble of applying maufactures logos and so on. I believe that possibly the tankers were delivered in 2 batches so maybe 1 with logos and 1 without? The 'IFI' logo starts to appear in pictures around 1987 at the end of the CIE Supertrain livery era. Finally, here is a good link showing the Ammonia Tanks in all their guises. It looks as though they carried no logo mid to late 90's, but there is also an image in there of a CIE livered A Class with a rake of tanks (No logo), which could be any time from 1980 to 1992-3! http://www.geograph.ie/snippet/7702
  22. Dave, what size roughly is that room? The raised part at the back is a great idea, you can have continuous running while still leaving plent of space for yards and stations and scenery! Fantastic finish by the way, very tidy.
  23. Thanks for that Eiretrains! It makes sense now.
  24. Hi guys, have seen Buckeys Sidings mentioned a couple of times and there are some images and videos up on youtube, but I can't figure out were they where (are?) in relation to Drogheda Station. Does the new DMU depot replace them?
  25. Just for anyone following its movements, weedspray rake is stabled in North Wall yard this evening (Friday 10th). Btw great views of North Wall yard from Costa Coffee in the Odeon Cinema down at the Point Village! Unfortunately, Cinema staff hate cameras even more than IE!
