MK3 Scrapping

I hate to ask really, but any more photos of the coaches being cut up at Dundalk? Or if anyone will be at North Wall when the scrap men start there, take a few pic's and share! (hard as it might be!) A scrap line is something I'd love to include on the layout, though scrapping much older wagons- on my layout mk3's are king!
3. Jesus H Christ! My jaw is on the floor... I just youtubed this in the hope that it's a prank... And it's not. I dread to think how much money has been spent.
4. Actually, you've just reminded me of another related question (hopefully not too off-topic). Were the 3x 111 class delivered by GM in the NIR blue? And same question for the 201's.
5. http://www.eurorailhobbies.com/erh_detail.asp?ca=23&stock=K39740 Says its in stock. I've used them a couple of times for kibri stuff. Always amuses me that I'm going to a Canadian shop to purchase European items.
6. As a Drimnagh man if memory serves me right the imps were on routes 121,122 and 123. All terminated on the Drimnagh Road outside Crumlin Hospital, and at peak times there could be 7 or 8 IMPs all battling for space! They also ran on route 150, and was there a 155 route aswell? As a child it was getting the 123 down to Ballybough to visit the Granny and catching a glimpse of a freight train when there used to be regular shunting between Hueston and North Wall!
7. CIE containers all the way! There are still many sitting around yards and on the line side even to this day. Some ended up with the IR logo on the sides too. There were up to recently a number of these containers down in the hollow behind Howth Junction, as storage for various Irish Rail Departments
8. An interesting video I came across this evening. A Polish freight train with car-transporters. He's fairly pelting along, and the Ford Ka's suspension is getting a good work out before it ever hits the tarmac! Combined with the fact that the transport contractor is called ars(e) I think I'd buy a Yaris instead!
9. and the 2014 IRM award for worst one liner goes to...
10. Boskonay, thanks a bunch for all the hard work behind the scenes that we don't see (I don't think I want to know what a NginX does unless it is made by bachmann, is 1:76 scale and has wheels!) Love the site and the banter!
11. Re road surfaces- one tip I read somewhere was to use a very fine grade sandpaper, sprayed to the colour you desire. I've tried it a couple of times with mixed results. In a large yard setting it looked quite good, but on a roadway it still looked a bit too coarse.
12. Plenty to keep you busy there for a while! It's all down to time and money, and I ain't got much of either at the moment! The big thing for me this year is that I've claimed a bit of space in the house as a workbench, so I can leave a couple of projects out and tinker with them as time permits. Like you, over the christmas I took a look a what I've accumulated over the past couple of years, and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in now! I'm not familiar with the steam era at all, but will be looking forward to how you proceed with the various builds! Love the c class by the way.
13. Thanks Kirley! They fairly piled in the beet on those wagons!
14. January 2014 update! Well I managed to carve out a bit of space in the house over Christmas to go through all my bits and pieces, and even found a few hours to get stuck in to a bit of 'scratching'! Panic this evening though as I'm told that a man is coming to fit floors in the morning, so everything has to go back in the box! Hopefully as the house repairs are completed I'll get the (my!) shed back and can get going on a permanent layout. Anyways, enough rambling, wanted to post these couple of pics up of my early 90's scrap train. Not often photo'd, and I don't know too much about it, but basically 20' ISO containers, in pretty poor shape, with crudely cut open roofs. They could be seen in Galway and Port Laoise, and were usually attached to regular liner trains. If anyone has pictures to share, or information on markings, please share. Any advise on weathering them greatly appreciated also. I've scratch built the containers, and made some removable 'scrap' loads using leftovers from kits and other bits of styrene off cuts. They are a long ways from being finished, but I couldn't resist giving a quick splash of paint to see if I've captured the 'feel' of the scrap containers, and I'm happy so far. (sorry about quality of pics, poor lighting)
15. Thanks all. Opened an account, and tried the German option, but still no joy. So I've sent an email, will keep you posted!
16. Hi guys, Has anyone on here any experience with the 'Miniatur Wonderland' webshop? They have some hugely discounted Kibri stuff on there right now. I've tried to purchase a few bits, but I can't convert the sale. You put in all your details, and when the option to pay comes up you click on 'pay by card'. It tells you that a secure window will open, which does, but a message saying 'cannot process this order' appears. Anyone purchased here recently?
17. It's great to see some freight activity going on as we enter 2014. I really thought a couple of years ago that it was all over, but this video shows there is still a few bits of interest to be seen on our railways! Great vid there gm171kk and looked like a good day to out!
18. Jaysus is right! I've been scratching away for the past couple of years to try and build up a collection of stock, and I love scratch-building, but holy cow Glenderg, the standard of work and craftsmanship is on a different planet to the rest of us- amazing!! I'm especially upset by the donelli cranes, because I've had a go at scratch building them recently but Jesus they look dog rough compared to the one you weathered! No seriously, brilliant work. I hope you don't judge us mortals too harshly when you see our efforts!!
19. Here's a link to yet another set of pictures I've never seen before, with some great shots of rarely photographed PW machines for Heirflick, some great reference picture for anyone building the SSM inspection car at the moment, and a most unusual bogie tank wagon, possibly an early weedspray rake? (just a guess) http://jandjcottrell.zenfolio.com/p487224326
20. Enniscorthyman, tend to agree with you. As per Davids picture on the previous page, I have highlighted what appears to be a run-round headshunt down the Wexford town end of the station. Looks like a recent installation alright. I know through the 90's there used to be some funny maneuvers here when the bagged cement called. Either a loco from a Dublin/Rosslare Train was sometimes used to 'free' the loco of the cement, or it would run on to Rosslare to run round. There would have to be a run round facility now for the ballasting to be stabled there, otherwise they would require 2 locos. One again, if anyone has photos or could scetch the current layout that would be most helpful!
21. Hi David (Wexfordloco10) super shots as always! Again, and after looking at the images above, I'm not understanding the track layout at the station. If you have the time, or if anyone else is familiar with it, can you explain the current track layout to me at Wexford station? Google earth and osi.ie don't give a clear picture. Surely it would be logical to have a run-round loop here, but I'm 99% sure that this is not the case!
22. Hi all. The owner of this shop was interviewed on the radio this morning, and it might have some potential here for the various bits of cottage industry going on with the many of the members. http://3dprintingdublin.ie/3dprinting/ There a lots of things I would like to have, but don't have the CAD (or other drawing software skills) to bring to life as an actual model. Similarly, there are many people on here (Nigel and his school buses as an example) who have the skill but will struggle with the cost. Would it be possible for the various designers on here to make their designs available to this shop? To get a return I would suggest that a royalty is paid each time one of their items is printed. For example, I want 2 school buses. I go to this shop and they print for me, based on Nigel's design. Let's say Nigel gets a Euro for each print. By doing it this way, we the modellers can pick from a library of stuff we want, and hopefully the fact that they are printing it here in Ireland would reduce the costs involved. I suggest a 'royalty' based system because it rewards the time and effort that goes into producing these drawings, and would encourage more drawing to be produced. If the designer just sold his drawing, it can be used over and over again without him seeing the benefit. As this is all new technology it's a learning curve for all of us, but seems to be becoming more and more accessible every day! I might go and visit this place over the weekend to find out some more, and will report back!
23. Jesus Des, fantastic stuff!!! I'll have me one of those please! However.... Will ya get on with the ammonia's!!!!!! (no pressure like!)
24. also spotted 072 with one autoballaster in the depot ......the shortest ballast train ever? Heirflick contributed this picture on another thread, so it's got me thinking, how long more will it take Irish Rail to kill off the old orange livery that we all love? I love this picture because it shows the latest logo applied to the auto ballasters and the orange door on 072, nearly taunting the marketing and PR people at IE! Please post any images taken from now on of any 'IR/IE black and orange' that might still be kicking about on the network, excluding preservation stock of course! Will be interesting to see how many more years the livery lives on! (I suppose technically the mk3's still count, don't want to upset members who still hold out hope for them ever being used here again!)
