Thanks Paul, I like your answer best cause it's the easiest to model! So I might try to model: no lights in side lamps and one red tail light at rear, on left or right. I have some of the IRM tail lights which would work well even though they are a mite too large. Or if I understood west cork properly even those newer tail lights were sometimes used on brake vans.

Thanks @Westcorkrailway. I know the tail lamps were there but were there usually 1 or 2 tail lamps used? If the train was reversing would they change from red to white? Did the side lamps mirror the colour of the tail lamps? Were side or tail lamps more commonly used?

Hello all, I'm looking for info on the placement and usage of tail lamps on cie brake vans. I'm making SSM's lovely brass kit and considering adding working lamps, tail or side lamps. I might either use IRMs wand operated lamp kit( a bit too large for a brake van probably) for tails or if I'm feeling more ambitious try to make my own from leds, resistor and capacitator. On that note if anyone knows any useful threads online for adding led lights to any brake van that could be a great help too. Here is my effort so far next to CK prints lovely RTR version.

Got CK's brake van on the layout today, lovely model, great smooth runner, really happy with it. Delighted to have a prototypical rake van finally. Thanks Enda. I want the red oxide one now!

I recieved one of Enda's vans yesterday and am really looking forward to running it on the layout once I get home from holidays at the weekend. Especially after reading this review!

Great weathering job.

The Oxford tank wagon is very tempting. I prefer these short Irish Shell tanks to the Heljan Esso ones available from IRM. How would I go about converting them? I've seen modellers rub off existing decals (Naval Store) with IPA . Are 'Irish Shell' transfers available? I didn't want to widen the frame. And lastly how likely are IRM to release one of these shorter tanks in a year or two?

Hello All, I am currently building a layout in my garden shed. I'm in the process of completing the scenery for a rural section and will soon be able to start scenicing a passenger through station on the layout. There is one other terminal station on the layout aswell. I will be running both Irish (CIE) and American (SF, UP, Rio Grande) trains on this layout from various eras but mostly 1940's to 1980's. Obviously I am not modelling any strict prototype scenes, instead I'm aiming to have most of the scenery and industries look to be passable as somewhere in the US or Ireland. A general temperate climate. Anyway my concern is the 2 passenger stations. US stations typically have very low platforms and Irish ones are raised? Does anyone know of passenger stations in Ireland that had low platforms? Or high ones in the US? For context I've attached a video of the layout. At the start where the orange A class is is where the through station will be. And later the yellow water bottle marks the position of the Terminal station.
