  1. Hi there, one of my cravens has been listing over to one side a bit for a while. any ideas how to fix this? The coach still runs fine but it looks a bit odd in a rake of steady ones
  2. RedRich, on the point of knuckles within rakes and tensions on the ends, I do the exact opposite. reason being, my layout has some tight curves and the closer knuckle couplings can lead to buffer lock, especially on the cravens I find, but on the ends I like to have them because they look neater on stabled rakes and on locos I think. it would be good if new models came with a set of each type of coupler
  3. Would it be possible to upload a photo of a murphys 071 alongside an MIR one? Always wanted to see how different they look.
  4. School was getting out early today, so i headed down to adelaide yard to take pictures of the 450s getting scrapped. Quite sad to see them cut in half and on trucks. ATTACH=CONFIG]7244[/ATTACH]

    My new baby!

I agree jhb, I even notice the overbearingness of full yellow fronts when comparing 3000 and 4000 class CAFs. the 4000s look a lot smarter and the same goes for the repainted 071s

    My new baby!

Very nice! I'm sure you're well pleased with that beauty!
  7. yep found out they where collecting the 450s for a transfer to ballymena where they are to be scrapped. I took some photos of the move which I will upload when I get to my computer
  8. Good news, I have just been awakened to see an unidentified 111 plus two gatwicks going past my bedroom window near sydenham station. I'm going to head out soon and wait on the platform for them to come back. I will post up any good pictures I take later on today
  9. I know what you are saying, but 50 euro is still quite a large sum, and for that money I feel the buyer should get a model that IS fully dimensionally correct, chassis and all. Besides, correct me if I am wrong, but are IFM products not factory made? just my opinion and I am not in any way trying to start an argument
  10. yep pretty certain they all did. and yes you are right they did stay like that for a couple of years, I think they just got repainted when the went for maintenance rather than an actual repaint program as such
  11. when the 071s arrived in Dublin, it was found that GM had painted them a more 'brownish' shade than normal CIE supertrain orange. they also had white 'broken wheels' as opposed to the orange ones applied by CIE. therefor the original livery would be the colour they arrived from the States in (the more tan one). they all received the normal orange the first time they went to inchicore for a repaint. hope that cleared it up a but for you, and if you have any more questions on the topic feel free to ask
  12. nice pictures, the new livery looks really smart!
  13. I don't know the measurements myself, but I am nearly sure hunslet has a dh on his gvs layout. pm'ing him might get you what you want. Hope i've been of help
  14. I sometimes travel on the enterprise from Belfast for days out, and what's quite silly is that if I buy a web return to Dublin and get off early at eg dundalk its cheaper than an actual normal fare.

    railway modeller

this month's edition of railway modeller features a review of the Murphy models 071s. One small issue though, in the review poor 113 appears to have been forgotten, as the author mentions 'NIRs duo'. I'm tempted to be something of a nit pick and write in about it. However, its good to see the locos get a great review
  16. nice pictures! by the way, could anyone tell me what type of coach the weedsprayer is?
  17. thanks for posting this, really interesting read. I wonder if in 40 years I might have fond memory's of CAF sets and de Dietrichs?
  18. wow! if I didn't know it was a layout and you just showed me those photos I would have thought it was the real thing
  19. ah right I use the mobile version and it doesn't come up. sorry for going off topic
  20. heirflick, was that '181' pun deliberate? lol
  21. not sure if you already know kirley, but I saw 111 and 3 ballast wagons parked up at York road last Sunday
  22. welcome to the site! for your track plan, how about a section of a port railhead. your 071 could shunt some intermodal flats about and you could get good practice at making concreted over areas of rail. Depending on space a small terminus could be put alongside for your mk3s
  23. heirflick- in the cab there is a peddle which the driver keeps his foot over. every minute a bell goes and the driver pushes the peddle to reset the deadman system. hope this helps
  24. Having just seen the picture of the 121 and 141 on the cement...permission to say 'wow' repeatedly in a loud voice? . The bubbles look great!
