  1. 20mm by 2" plained all round timber covered with Wills rough stone for the sides and Wills paving slabs for the top. I then painted and weathered it
  2. Stephen I used a compressed air cut off tool with a 1mm thick diamond crusted disc and my big industrial compressor. It cuts through anything like a hot knife through butter. You need to watch the fingers
  3. I got a little work done on the layout on Sunday. I made up a new platform and my Hornby station I cut in half to give me a decent sized building. I still have to add fencing and more ballast to the track along the platform and also add scenery, weather/paint the track. What I would like to know from you guys is a typical Irish Station with a passing loop would it have one or two platforms. The track closest the camera is the passing line also would the signal box be near the station and would there be more than one signal box considering there is also a freight yard one box for the yard and one for the mainline/passing loop
  4. He's got magic fingers when it come to computers
  5. Yes I don't know which stand but I'll try and make sure its next to yours
  6. Its still a good price for a 201
  7. I think deep down its everyone's dream to see her grace Irish rails again. And my opinion and attitude is never say never after all look at the Flying Scotsman's story even though it nearly bankrupted a few millionaire's she was brought back from the dead and there is nothing to say that in the future a couple of millionaires/railtour companies here might do the same. Nobody knows what the future holds in store. Now where did I put those Euro millions numbers
  8. I just recently had that conversation with David at the last Stillorgan show. You could see the cogs starting to turn in his head give him a chance let him get 461 out of the way first. But as for the A and C class I would advise him to put it out there as a resin kit a bit like Silverfox. Anyway back to 461.
  9. Timber is a hard one to work out when it comes to weight. Newly cut logs would be quite heavy as they contain a lot of moisture there for it makes the load heavier. When I used to haul kiln dried timber from B/fast docks back to the yard about 16 bales had us on our limit sometimes a ton or two over I don't know if IE weigh their wagons while loading to see if they are over there running limit. Probably the best one to answer your question will be Noel if anyone has an idea it will be him. As I said I'm only guessing at the amount of trucks per wagon going on a visual side of things.
  10. Was the ban not lifted in the UK because the network was privatised???? And another thing who mentioned the RPSI I thought we were talking about the possiblities of putting Mave back on the rails. The point I'm making is that if the network here is ever privatised and we were to have our version of rail track/network rail, I think the revenue they would make from private rail tours would over come any red tape and someone with a big enough wallet may decide to try and put her back on the rails.
  11. Looking great K. But before you paint them don't forget to cut them down to the correct length
  12. If you go by tonnage a 6 axel unit and trailer's maximum loaded weight is 44ton. Take away roughly 16-18ton for the weight of the unit/trailer and hiab crane and your left with about 26-28 ton of load per truck. So if you know how much a wagons gross weight is you should be able to work it out. I would say looking at the size of the wagons in relation to the trucks about 2/3 trucks per wagon. But this is only a guess.
  13. If they can run all their preserved loco in the UK on the main lines I don't see why they can't do it here. I think it's just down to red tape. If the Irish rail network goes like the UK into private ownership I think you might one day see more preserved locos running more frequently.
  14. Nice little Lima Irish set on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-IRISH-RAILWAYS-IANROID-EIREAN-INTER-CITY-DIESEL-LOCO-3-CARRIAGES-/221208993336?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3381155e38
  15. Born in the Coombe not like you northsiders Speaking of Irish was there not something on the News that Garda in the west could not take a statement from a punter because they could not speak Irish and the statement giver wanted to give his statement in Irish. I think it time you came out of retirement and started teaching Irish.

Thanks for all the comments guys just finished weathering my own 088 and 086 I will post some pictures soon for you as Ive a big run on at the minute weathering 071's for a lot of you guys out there and also a lot of work to do for the forth coming Bangor show. My own 088 and 086 weren't as heavily weathered as my 078 as I wanted them to look relatively new. Can't wait to get my hands on the later IE livery. As I said I'll post up something for you guys soon.
  20. Fran what's the difference between the SD7 and SD9
  21. As I said Seamus its only a rumour at the minute. I have a few to paint for customers and myself but I'm waiting untill I see one finished and in service before committing. As you said an orange or red pin stripe around the roof would be nice
  22. This SD7 would make a fantastic weathering/painting project
