  1. Beautiful. well done. Just like the real deal.
  2. Hi noel. Now that i have had a bit more time with it i am delighted with the whole powercab. Everything software wise is very simple and intuitive . Step by step manual written in simple steps. It is also packed with features. plus the little thumb wheel allows you to look at the loco rather than the controller, just like DCC. I fully recommend it and in comparison to dcc railmaster , this is the way to go.thanks.
  3. Wowzee. always worth checking Nelsons workbench! well done.
  4. Imagine the wife's face....
  5. I knocked together a track cleaning wagon. necessity is the mother of invention. as you can see it ain't Irish prototype but I am going to spray it to lessen the train set look. http://youtu.be/jlXQQm1LNVs
  6. thanks. yes I am pleased with the turntable. it is a peco kit . i sprayed the basin grey with a touch of brown to try to make it more realistic. Just need to fix and wire all the off tracks now. ballast the area. put in a little level crossing over near the bar . lights. bits of scrap here and there. a redundant loco even . a tree or two. A thirsty railwayman approaching the bar. ..... Not much really. I'll fly through all that.
  7. haven't been on in a while really. Been doing a bit. Nothing too prototypical. Just letting the imagination and the card kits do the work. still working on track etc but enjoying my new NCE controller. thanks lads for the advice. Here's a little corner I've been working on for a while. excuse all the wagons on loan from BR , as it were, ...... Lol.... As if. still plenty to do.

    Careful now!
  9. Powercab rocks. NCE know their business. Happy man .
  10. yea i like the class 28. but the DP2 has made me nervy about 6 wheel bogies. Thanks. Thanks warbonnet for the list too.
  11. BTW what other steam era BR diesels do Heljan make ?
  12. OK fair comments lads. To be honest i was surprised at the DP2 derailments. Perhaps i got a dud, but a web search confirmed my opinion. I am glad to hear that not all Heljan are like this as it really was a nice model, great weight to it and detail, but I need trains that will run. As i said, the track radius is all 3rd and 4th, but the Heljan was throwing itself off at points and everywhere.
  13. Alright lads and laddies. Obviously I may be a bit biased . but here goes! I was tempted to buy a Heljan Deltic DP2 prototype as they were going cheap. Got it home. First impressions were v. good. Great detail. Wipers tiny etc. Very smooth runner. However, It nearly drove me mental in an hour with the amount of times it derailed itself. To the point where I flogged it after only two days of ownership. Seemingly the wheels are so fine and accurate this is a common problem . So. Led me to a train of thought. I have had zero problems with any Murphy Models loco. I have never had a similar priced loco to compare one to, but my foray into heljan has been disappointing. If i had paid full price it would have been as dear as a 201. The point i think is that MM seem to have the balance right. Detailed models that also run extremely well. By comparison the Heljan DP2 is an expensive display model rather than a running model. Pity.
  14. My my my. Five minutes and up and running. nce powercab is excellent. ... really intuitive. Simple but effective interface. By comparison, Railmaster was a poor choice, over complicated, confusing and prone to faults.
  15. All good news so! I sort of always planned to move to an NCE. Decided to sell a few bits on eBay that I never used and came out with more than I expected so I finally took the plunge.
  16. I decided to switch from the Hornby rail master software to the NCE power cab. While I did find the railmaster software ok, it became a little too much screen for me. I am a bit more of a hands on type, no problems with computers , but railways are a bit different. I have the NCE on order and will let you know how I get on. It just looks like a more hands on type controller, plus will mean i won't have to sit behind a screen ! What do you think ?
  17. I go for a travelling workbench Meself. keep it in a box near the kitchen. easy access to beer and snacks of a Friday.
  18. its odd they proceeded to build a good few deltics, but totally sucked the character out if the prototype. Is it a case of a grey suit somewhere objecting to a little flamboyance ? ☺
  19. Brillo man. You have some knack with the plasticard! well done.
  20. Boxes ticked.
  21. I have been meaning to do this for a while. building a dapol deltic prototype. Gonna motorise it. Why? coz I love it. One of the best looking diesels ever, in my opinion!!!!!
  22. No I don't think it is prototypical of anything Irish or not! The old kits, structures, were often made up! It is possible that it has a UK prototype I suppose. I'm pretty sure I got this in marks models about 30 years ago. Pretty sure it was a dapol kit back then! I also have a cattle truck and brake van kits. Poorly built by a young me, but I do have the lovely airfix coloured boxes they came in!
  23. I'm glad I'm like my mammy. I tend not to throw things out! This is one of those dapol kit footbridges . It fell apart after many years in a box. Bit of glue and a spray and a weather and it ll be grand!
  24. I absolutely love the 141 and 181 s . Once I bought one I could not believe how well they run. It was because of these that i started with model railways again.
