Glad to hear Mr Q that your extensive generosity and benevolence will be saving the local trade here in Ireland. Abide with me just for a moment with this thought "Look after the pennies and pounds will look after themselves". There seems nothing selfish, nor disloyal about prudently saving money by shopping around for the best value. My post simply highlighted some useful and truthful information, nothing more. PS: We'd better get used online buying cause there may be no car dealerships left in Ireland in 15 years time, when cars are bought and serviced online as Tesla have proven and done sucessfully for the past six years, disrupting an entire industry with GM, Ford, VAG and Toyota all following behind in their wake. We may not like change nor disruptive enterprises but ultimately the consumer benefits. IRM are a highly successful case in point selling their superb products direct with no distributers nor dealers between the consumer and production, no middle men. We've all been buying holidays, accomodation and low cost flights direct for years instead of supporting local travel agents. Consumers have a right to save their disposable income and do not morally 'need' to support any 'for profit' business.

I was lucky to snap this shot of an A330 on short finals to 06 at EINN some years ago on the Shannon Estuary. I'd love to get a short of the 225 on this approach over the estuary. Wide bodies can look like they are going to land short on the water.

Fair comment Richard, but in fairness the difference is about €100 on four models, and that's not boasting just stating the obvious. We as consumers benefit from competition. I normally buy local as much as possible even if the price is a little bit higher, but when the saving is more significant one has to be prudent. I noticed Hattons do not discount Accurasale products. €100 is more than 'saving a few quid'. On the subject of buying local I find often the cost of postage in Ireland can be quite high, say you need one small item for €5 but the postage is more than the item. ID models in Killcole do free postage in Ireland which is great for small orders like a tin of glue, paint, or blades, etc.

So glad I ordered one of those IR tippex ones despite it being slightly out of my era, I always thought that livery on the prototype looked fabulous. The detail seems even better than one could have hoped for, the roof detail, bogies, etc are sublime.

Hattons seem to be offering good discount on Murphy Model 121s with postage to Ireland only €3. Just noticed this morning. Hatton's service is legendary.

Whoops! That's a nice collection of your Silverfox locos. They were of their time and made it to most layouts in RTR or Kit form back in the day. They passed the 'duck test' for many despite Sir Richards famous 'belt of a shovel'.

Unfortunately not man, That's a relief. I suspect many folks might prefer to do their own weathering, and to the extent they prefer. Factory weathering is usually rather poor and bland.

That see through grill is a magnificent achievement and marks this model loco out above all others to date. Looking forward to getting my hands on a pair and weathering them.

Hi Mick. I replied here on the original thread rather than hijack the Barrow Street thread. As to shade of yellow, Suggest Trial and error starting with Vallejo or Tamiya yellow out of the bottle. I normally mix paint by eye and put a sample on small test pieces of plastic card that have been primed so that you can see what it looks like when dry. First step I would take is remove the bogies and give the entire model a few coats of Halfords plastic grey primer (or Hycote) to hide the rail track colour and logos. Then and only then a few coats of a suitable shade of yellow. You'll know by eye straight away if it looks right, and can adjust the mix for the next coat. Bare in mind a few coats yellow will be needed on top of a darker colour grey primer. Then a coat of acrylic gloss varnish so that the transfers have a smooth surface to adhere to and the edges of the transfers blend into the gloss varnish. When finished transfers a coat of matt or satin varnish will take it back to the finish you require.

Looks like a relatively easy respray of Bachmann Rail Track 38-210. No masking needed, one single colour, just a lot of small transfers to be carefully placed. Personally I've not interest in anything yellow, nor PW stuff, so never aspired to respray any rail track stock. I remember seeing a twin pack of Irish rail ones for sale a few years ago for €70 and my jaw nearly dropped thinking no way I'd ever pay €35 each for a wagon especially one that didn't transport either passengers or goods. If one was into yellow PW stuff that sounds like a good deal now compared to buying and respraying RailTrack but its an easy single colour respray. Bump. This was a great thread worthy of revival, just been re-reading it. Did many built the SSM kit? Did it come with motor, gears, etc?
