  1. http://mrv.trains.com/videos/issue-preview/2013/12/video-model-railroad-planning-2014-issue-preview Here is a video preview of the 2014 issue.
  2. I'm delighted to see you back. Looking forward to seeing more of your great work.
  3. I have been reading Model Railroad Planning since the first issue in 1995 and it has greatly influenced the design of my railway. Any of Tony Koester's (MRP editor) books are highly recommended.
  4. Recent progress on scenery west of Glen More.
  5. I had a minor issue with the stone walls on this section of the layout which I had not previously encountered. As mentioned in an earlier post they are made from cat lit mixed with white glue and formed on the layout. On this section after the glue dried contraction occurred leaving gaps in the wall. It was easily fixed by patching with cat lit white glue mix or simply hiding the gap with foliage.
  6. Waterford Cork Bell liner east of Glen More.
  7. No, the ones at Gort were used used to haul ore from Silvermines to Foynes.
  8. Has anyone unearthed a drawing of the magnesite wagons?
  9. Beautiful job on the Park Royal. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
  10. This is the second 4 wheel container flat that I have built. An improved brake lever was fitted and the buffers are at 6 foot centers which in my opinion improve the appearance.
  11. Today scenery was extended to the East end of Glen More including an accommodation crossing.
  12. Thanks for the positive comments. Since the layout is set early in the beet season I have been trying out Woodland Scenics fall foliage and dead foliage on trees, some of which I need to fill out a bit more. The other materials used are light green coarse turf, olive green underbrush and light green clump foliage. I had mixed in some medium green coarse turf on the area around Grange but having none on hand a few weeks ago and having an itch to build scenery I went ahead without it thinking it could be added later. As it turned out the results were better so now the medium green is no longer used.
  13. Latest progress on the layout has been the scenery East of Glen More around the road over bridge at the entrance to the fiddle yard.
  14. They were also used to shunt Fenit pier until the mid seventies.
  15. Here is a short video of a few trains passing Keilys Cross.
  16. The buffers are from Dart castings http://www.dartcastings.co.uk/mjt/2350.php which can also improve the SSM brake van . The brake lever bothers me, it should be heavier and will be replaced. A handy etch with brake gear and rectangular plates would make this conversion so much easier.........and decals of course!
  17. Almost completed.
  18. I should add that inspiration for this conversion came from hidden-agenda's tutorial on ballast hoppers.
  19. [ATTACH=CONFIG]11811[ Progress on the first 27101 series flat car which will be used with Bell containers. I'm waiting on one eight inch plastistruct channel for the buffer beams. This will also extend the wagons to a more prototypical length.
  20. Its just regular cat lit from ALDI. I mix about a quarter cup with white glue, just enough to make it stick together. The walls were then formed on the layout, in this case over the ground foam using my fingers. This method has the great advantage of having the wall follow the contours of the landscape.
  21. This morning I put in some stone walls, cat lit and white glue.
  22. Beautiful work Phil, good to see you back.
  23. http://briansolomon.com/trackingthelight/tag/ireland/ I found this site over the weekend and don't know if the link has been posted before.
  24. It's November 1969 and A50 shunts beet wagons at Kielys Cross siding.
  25. Thanks John. I am building Three wagons for Bell containers which will run on the loose coupled goods as you suggested in a previous post. Will post pictures when they are finished.
