Bandon tank 3D print

Bandon tank nearly sorted. A big thank you to Cathal Deasy for loaner body. External body done on 3d print. Internal nearly sorted and should be printing bandon tanks in January 2023. I used terrier chassis with bogey from a hornby loco. It runs like a clock so I'm very happy with it.

Some tasty looking photos from the CAD programme. A few things must be changed most particularly the cab for one. Owen has done a great job using an 0 gauge kit built bandon tank as his only reference 

but considering how many bandon tanks I have seen come and pass on my time. I think finnally this one will go to market soon enough

Even more work done tonight, infact other then chassis work it’s more or less complete. Owen and Mark will be at Wexford to show off this model. The rivets have quite litterally been counted here it seems!

 

I have made requests for a few alterations but otherwise. It’s a rather good looking CAD isint it

Sneak peek! It may have had an error while printing. But rivet counters will be well chuffed with this finish

Thanks Cathal for putting this up here I really do appreciate it. Yes unfortunately the printer threw an error code five and a half hours in to a seven hour-ish print. I won't lie I was fuming, but such is life eh. Design time on CAD took me around 12 hours all in. I checked the USB for errors and windows cleared them as there was an error present so I have another print of the Bandon Tank 464 going as I type in the same printer and I am hoping that it does not stop at the same point as the last print because that means either the USB drive is on the way out or the .FDG file for the printer is somehow corrupted, or worse still its the printer. Fingers crossed and I will keep you posted. Thank you, regards Owen O' Neill.

The detail looks excellent, top-notch; shame about the glitch.

On the upside, you might be able to do a wee diorama of some of the inchicore sidings with a loco on the wrong end of a cutters torch

4 main liveries . CBSCR green, GSR grey, CIE  lines green and CIE black.

routes 

The CBSCR, kent station (shunting, pilot and even banking duties), cork to cobh, Dublin commuter services, possibly a station pilot in Dublin at one stage (?) 

but of course it could in theory work on any branch line or be a station pilot/shunter 

era

percect for late steam era when the A and C class were in use along with possibly clashing buffers with B121s. Owens MGWR or hattons genesis 6 wheelers would make a good combo with these 

They lasted from 1906 to 1963 and weren’t cut up until 1966 with a very real possibility of one being preserved (they were 100 odd quid short)

Funny enough. This was one of the reference photos I gave Owen…notice the pipe between the chimney and dome. This was added when in use as a stationary boiler at Inchicore. But Owen put it in one of the first drafts! (If you go through the previous images in this thread you will see it)So we are already halfway there!

I think only one was black, and one or two green; the rest ended their days grey. The shade of CBSCR green is unknown, though is thought by some to have not been unlike the olivey-green shade that was used at one time by the Southern Railway of England.

I hope ye don't mind an update on 464 Bandon Tank. I have been successful in printing one and removing most of the supports and their left overs so to speak. Awaiting the second one off the printer that gave me trouble earlier on. The model still needs tidying up but I am super happy compared to earlier on today. There are a few minor tweaks I want to make to the design but nothing major. So here it is in all its glory the Bandon Tank 446. Thank you all.

I will be showing the Bandon Tank 464 Body off along with a MGWR Brake 3rd body I have also recently completed at the Wexford show on Sunday and Saturday coming. Might see ye there. Thank you all, Owen.

It’s looking superb Owen. I can’t make it to Wexford due to lack of transport but I’m sure the bandon (which ran on D&SE metals) will be well received!

Asking price was £300 (about €15k today) . Unfortunatly the fella leading the charge to buy it had fallen out with CIE and particularly andrews so the 200 as a deposit wasn’t accpeted and the rest is history.

While many were looking at 3d prints of par royals and ICR’s (understandably) owens bandon, along with some of his other items were on display

Dire I ask about the Chetwynd viaduct kit and which parts of the body do I need to get removed to pay for it .

Depends on the size. That one above is In N gauge. Somewhere in the region of 100 quid I think

Really! It looks bigger than that. I guess that if I wanted one it would need to be done in 4mm scale. But just out of interest do you have an approximate size length wise in 4mm?

A propper 1:76 one was my my plan. It has been done before….however it would End up being 2.5 meters long!!!
