Hi Everyone.

How do folks on here deal with Insurance for their Model Railway & Model collection ?

I tried my home insurance company & they won't cover it or offer insurance for it ?

Thanks.

Regards.

Anyone have anything to say on this.

Surely your models are covered by insurance with someone ?

Just make sure to name any valuable items on the home insurance policy. Worth getting advice from your broker.

Might be sufficient to say model railway collection and have a total value.

House insurance also covers me, except if individual items have a value above £2.5k. There are specialist brokers who advertise in the hobby magazines, one I believe is based in Newark Notts;

Magnet Insurance 01636-858249 www.modelrailwayinsurance.co.uk Info taken from Hornby Mag; March 24. I have no idea how it would work if you are not in the UK, a question to ask. Hope this helps.

For Irish viewers, I have dealt for years with Frank Glennon & Co., now part of some multinational, beside the Charlemont Luas stop. This post has reminded me that my stuff is NOT sinured separately, unless under household contents, but the replacement value of what I have would be significant, so thank you for focussing my mind on this.

However, in the PAST, I have had valuable items separately listed. At one stage, following a house clearance of a deceased relative, at one time I had a lot of valuable stuff of hers stored in the house for several years pending distribution to other relatives. At the time, Glennons had no problem including specific separate items.

I believe my own normal home policy will cover the layout I have now, but this post has prompted me to check.

Our house policy is with Aviva & they don't / won't cover collections in house insurance which I found strange. They checked with their underwriters.

I tried Magnet & they don't have a policy which covers Ireland.

I'll keep looking but any suggestions are welcome.

No luck on this so far but will keep trying.

Tried one place who said they offer insurance on collectables but their minimum premium is €1000 😬

Hi Tony, but late to this, same as above, my home insurance covers my collection, I did ask about this to be told one item over €2500 needs validation cert, or collection covered under contents, my insurance company is in Killarney. PM me if you need more information.   Regards John.
