I'm wondering is there nny OO models available of DFDS Container Pocket Wagons? Probably not RTR. I'm a fan of US well container cars so would love an Irish version.

Would this dapol RTR model be a close fit? Once repainted .

I'm almost sure that @MOGUL recently posted about butchering some Dapol CPW's to make them look Irish.

This is probably the post you're referring to DJ:

@MOGUL makes an important point that the dapol CPWs won't fit 45' containers. Are there 40' Irish containers that would suit?

Have a look on YouTube and see what suits. The Bell boxes would probably have been retired before the CPW's came along.

Lys Line and Cronos boxes on that one for sure.

MSC and CMA-CGM boxes on that one.

Sorry I am on Daddy duty mid house move madness so don’t have time to give this one a full reply, but will try get to this over the weekend..

Can I suggest a perusal of the late Fred Deans Flickr with shots of them in their first life on the Cork line where Hapag Lloyd 40ft HCs(both reefers and dries) and MSC 40ft HCs(mainly dries) were regular loads.. Both of these have been modelled a few times, by C rail, Dapol and I think maybe Hornby..

Irish Rail 36013 at North Esk.

Second video is an IWT liner, not a DFDS.. Hence the 40ft containers

My bad, forgot that he only wanted the DFDS CPW's!

Thanks @MOGUL lovely image and info. I'm interested in any CPWs on Irish rails.

@MOGUL in your photo the CPW looks more yellow than grey. What original colours were they painted in on Irish rails? If yellow they remind me of the US TTX well cars that I am currently building from an Athearn kit that I run with my US outline collection.

The Dapol ones are similar in style but the well is shorter than the Irish ones - only 40’ rather than 45’.

I would guess a bit narrower too, but then nowhere near as out of scale for Irish outline as a scale 4ft 1 1/2 inch gauge, so probably not a problem for anyone not modelling in 21mm.

They are grey, originally a darker shade but this quickly faded.. The wagon in Fred’s pick has a coating of track dirt and brake dust on it which give it a reddish tinge.. They got repainted before returning to service earlier this year and are now dark grey again

Depends on the reefer, but those are about right.. Although there are odd balls like the ECS carpet containers, that are 2550mm wide on the hinges..

They all fit in the Irish rail CPWs, but the reefers don’t seat on the pins, so 45ft reefers are no longer allowed to be carried in them..

I managed to get to the storage unit earlier this week and clear it out in time for Christmas.. So here is a resprayed dapol KTA wagon.. For me it was promising enough to go ahead and order two more plus the conversion pack and decals from SSM
