Liverbird81 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Just wondering guys is there any knowledge of the American version of the 121 class and if so does anybody know if bachmann produce a model of it Quote
0 David Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 As far as I know the 121 class was an EMD export design and so didn't run in USA. There's a Wikipedia page about it http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_GL8. There is a Brazilian manufacturer that makes their version but it is very different to the Irish one and very expensive. 0 Liverbird81 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Is there an HO version of the 121 class or anything closely resembleing it Quote
0 BosKonay Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Some info on models here: http://website.lineone.net/~sjohnson40/Loco%20Profiles/B121.html Tho a tad out of date Quote
0 Liverbird81 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 I've found an HO bacmann alco s4 switcher loco seems pretty close although would need some tiny alterations I think and there only £65 RTR models Quote

0 Garfield Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 They're not alike at all, to be honest. GM's GL8 model, of which the 121 class is a variant of, was designed specifically for the export market. As far as I know, nobody produces a ready-to-run model of this loco. If there is one available, some alterations would still be needed... Quote
0 Warbonnet Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Two topics on the same subject merged. Please only start one topic instead of multiple ones so we can keep the answers all in one place. Thanks. Quote
0 UP6936 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I think most of the gl8 locos built had high-hoods, so it would be quite hard to modify one to look right, if they ever bring out a model. Quote
0 David Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 The link below is a model of the Brazillian EMD GL8 http://cartelcaipira.ning.com/m/photo?id=2403785%3APhoto%3A143671 Quote
0 Mayner Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) The Argentinian & Mexican GA8 locos are probably the nearest appearence wise to the 121s http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=350229&nseq=2 They have the same engine as the 121s but ride on freight trucks with a pair of traction motors inside the body.
