lads' date=' anyone know how many of the origional fleet of 18 (IE) are still operating? just wondering if any are stored, striped or unserviceable. if any are stored what numbers and livery? as usual, all info is much appreciated. HF[/quote']

All 18 are still on the books as they say-none of the class are stored or withdrawn or unserviceable.

078 is in the new grey livery since early this year but is waiting for parts to re enter service.

085 has been confined to Inchicore works for some time now, about 2 years and has recently been reported to be in the grey livery now but not out in traffic.

087 has been in Inchicore works for about 2 years now, was stopped while still in IE orange and no word if it's overhaul has began yet, rumors are it was stripped of parts for the rest of the fleet a while back.

Yep, 087 hasn't worked since sometime in 2011. It was in a right state when it was stopped, lots of rust and body work corrosion. 077, 078 and 087 were all stopped around the same time the last of the orange 071s along with 084 that kept on going till this year in orange. 077 and 078 being first spotted at Inchicore early this year in the new livery. Some were guessing weather 077 or 078 would be released back to traffic first, in which case was 077 in April.

So is it correct to say that 077, 078, 084 and 087 never carried black/silver freight livery? Did all other members of the class carry black/silver livery? How many locos are now carrying grey livery?

The large numbers on the cab fronts and sides are a step in the right direction alright. However, the full 12-digit number (the European Vehicle Number - EVN) is only needed once on each side, not twice as IÉ have done. Putting the 3-digit number in black on the yellow panel on the cab front, in a larger font, would have improved readability even more. Also, having the 3-digit number, the full 12-digit EVN and the logo on the cab side at bot ends makes the whole appearance look cluttered. It would have looked far better if the 12-digit EVN had been positioned under the catwalk in the centre of the locomotive, with only the 3-digit number, again in a larger font, under the cab side windows at each end.
