WRENNEIRE Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Just been reading this thread with interest Would these bits qualify? Bought an ex CIE mans collection over the weekend and these bits were included Any idea what the smaller of the 2 keys is for?
minister_for_hardship Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Smaller key is 201 / 071 class key
aclass007 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Do you deal in items like this, WRENNEIRE, or are they only for your personal collection?
burnthebox Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Davey boy sure it's not for your Fridge,
WRENNEIRE Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Any idea if the Pay Check tokens are Irish?
minister_for_hardship Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 They are, quite modern ones though.
WRENNEIRE Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Cheers Minister What are/were they used for? Like a clock card or something similar?
minister_for_hardship Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 This should explain it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_pay_cheques
jhb171achill Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 I'm not even sure what I had in mind when I started this thread, Wrenn! Whatever it was, I have inadvertently deleted the text, then posted it. Yes, I should have gone to specsavers....
WRENNEIRE Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I dont think Specksavers is the place you need to go to JB,
Mike 84C Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I checked the Wiki site, interesting, but what a surprise; a GWR pay check with my old number. When I got made up to a fireman my number became 157. At Banbury you asked for your pay check at the booking on clerks window then presented it to the pay clerk at another special window that was only used for paying out and your cash came in a small tin! How Victorian but rather pleasant counting your cash.
minister_for_hardship Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 There would have been thousands upon thousands of British pay checks, check ebay any day of the week, not so many Irish floating around.
