WRENNEIRE Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 (edited) Decided to convert to DCC Had a couple of issues with the old layout which I fixed first Trapdoor entry was never succesfull where it was, so I moved it to the centre of the opening I think the current Mrs Bracken must have left her hoover there when she was cleaning the attic for me! General view of the layout Looking back down The trapdoor The new one Old Control Panel New one Edited July 27, 2018 by WRENNEIRE Quote

Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Great to see this Wrenn! Welcome to the world of tomorrow (er, DCC, too ) Say nothing yet Stephen he will still be looking for the wind up key on the back of the hand held controller :D:D Quote
Broithe Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I know someone who has a similar location and she has never been up there. I told her that he just plays a recording of some trains going round to cover the noise of the still. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Now thats what you call a proper attic.Nice job Dave:) Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Another few days work and nothing to see Fitted the bus wireing As I never thought the layout would be rewired, I had fixed the presses and shelving permanently so every meter under the baseboards was a long drawn out struggle, indeed most of the screws had slot heads! Found this building while looking through some stuff Does it look Irish enough? Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Nice hoover. Is she a Dyson? No, female and a housewife, also called Granny Bracken! Quote
BosKonay Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Lovely build of the metcalf kit Dave - I've one too I plan to use Quote

djkonore Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 No, female and a housewife, also called Granny Bracken! How do run the track over the trap-door? Quote
Guest hidden-agenda Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 That's turned out a great job and the lay out is shaping up nicely as well. Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) How do run the track over the trap-door? Couple of pics from the old layout Trapdoor in closed position Underneath shot Basically just brought the power via the old telephone cable and wired it to the track on the trapdoor The small piece of timber on the left hand lip is why the trapdoor looks out of line in the first shot. Underneath of trapdoor Edited April 25, 2012 by WRENNEIRE Quote
djkonore Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Thanks for the pics Dave, but how does the track hinge? Are you using flexi track? If so, does it just bend when you lift the trapdoor? Or is there also a gap on the hinge side? Quote

Or is there also a gap on the hinge side? The usual thing is to have the hinges mounted just above the board surface - see the blocks in the picture - this allows the track by the hinges to rise without clashing with the fixed track. The track is cut on the break-line where the door joins the fixed top. A picture of the top of the door when it's open would explain it... Or try http://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/Hints%20&%20Tips.htm#Lifting Bridge Section And, is it Hazelwood or Hazlewood? I think we should be told.. Edited April 25, 2012 by Broithe Quote

Brilliant, thanks Dave, might end up making one if I ever go full circle. As for the Hazelwood/Hazlewood debate, I live in America, where they can't spell anyway. My computer constantly underlines things that are correctly spelled using the queens english! Quote

If the Americans want to speak English then they should have to pay a licence fee, and pass a test - otherwise it's Navaho, or something like that, for them... Just wait until I take over. The lifting bridge is quite do-able - but the slightly raised hinges are an important feature for a successful device. Quote
