Warbonnet Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I took these at the 201 launch night at the South Dublin club. Good night it was too. [video=youtube;v-gCqPohfNk] And a quick look at the functions on a 201 with the Murphys DCC Chip in it. Quote
201bhoy Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I wish there was a 201 enterprise sound decoder, it sounds so different when providing the HEP! Quote
BosKonay Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 I suppose you could just set it at max throttle when stationary Quote
201bhoy Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 It's still not the same sound but I suppose it'll sound better anyway. Thanks Boskonay Quote
BosKonay Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 I know what you mean - worth saying to Retro herbie / Modelshopbelfast - maybe an enterprise specific variant could be produced of the chip..... Quote
201bhoy Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Yeah because otherwise it just won't sound right on the enterprise...I wonder would they do a separate one or would they add it on to the current one? Quote
BosKonay Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 Could just replace the engine / throttle settings, or have a 'HEP' function to add the noise Quote
201bhoy Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Anyone know when the next 201s are coming out? Quote
enniscorthyman Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Could just replace the engine / throttle settings, or have a 'HEP' function to add the noise I don't know if this is possible but I will talk to Gerry Byrne to see if mr Sound Guy can do this. By the way the locos that were recorded back in 2007 for the locos were 211-185-088. It was pointed out to me that 185 has a clanking in the idling of the engine that is reproduced On the sound chip.I don't know if this is fault on 185 at the time but it seems she had this noise when recording took place. Quote
BosKonay Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 You can hear the clanking on the video under the 141/181 post - adds realism I think Quote

BosKonay Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 I wonder even if you spent 5 minutes standing beside 8208 as she sat in Connolly and recorded her, could the HEP sound be added to the existing chips (then get a chip 'reblown' or an Entperprise specific chip, or , simpler still, include HEP as a function on all the 201 chips) Quote
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I would say Mr Sound Guy would have to do a new recording for the Enterprise Quote

201bhoy Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Yeah, there's no comparison, they're two completely different sounds. And we need the HEP sound especially with the DDs coming out. Quote
josefstadt Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 The June issue of the magazine Model Railroader has an article on modelling the sounds of passenger diesels. This includes details of how to model HEP sounds. While the article relates to Amtrak diesels, it might be of use for the HEP on the 201s. Quote
201bhoy Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 My weathered 220 arrived today! Detailing is superb, I'll be getting all my fleet done by the model shop in due course after seeing this! I'll put up a few photos on Monday! Quote

aramand Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Hi, I just got my first MM201 today and have a noticed a "problem" where even on the third radius curves (Hornby R609) the wheels rub against the back of the coupling as it goes around. At the moment I dont have any coaches on so the coupling is not loaded (so back as far as it will ever be) but that will always be the case on at least one end of the loco. Just wondering has anyone else noticed this or is there any adjustment that can be made ? I did remove the actual NEM coupler itself but the wheels still touch what is left. Thanks, Declan. Quote
201bhoy Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) I chose this picture for gareth to model it on http://www.flickriver.com/photos/be216cd1/5843587576/ Edited May 2, 2012 by Anthony Quote
RedRich Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I have got to say that I much prefer the original as delivered IE livery on the 201's. It's even prompting me to purchase 203 and use some A1 Models class 59 radiator grilles to replace the molded ones on the MM model. Paint the grilles and footstep plating on the cab front with Halfords grey primer, and have her in the condition she was in between 2006-08. Rich, Quote

It looks the best weathered too Well, I think Anto's 220 weathered looks better than his 222 or 229 anyway. (it's lovely too though!) When Santa comes knocking this Xmas tell him you want as iPhone I can't, I'm already asking for dcc, a 201 sound decoder and probably loads of track too! Quote
