MD220 Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 Hi, I saw this old cast metal sign in a recent online auction (in Ireland). At first glance I thought it was Belfast & County Down but obviously the ampersand is in the wrong place. Does anyone know what railway it belongs to? Cheers! Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 It's a complete and utter fake! Lots of those faux-GSWR things about with all sorts of initials. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! You might inform the auction, as lots of people have been conned out of good money for so-called "antiques" like this..... Quote
0 WRENNEIRE Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 One I picked up recently and although its an enamel sign it shows the correct logo, no ampersand Quote
0 DERAILED Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 @Wrenneire I know there was somebody reproducing these fence signs a long time ago and your one seems in remarkable nick for something attached to a fence for years. Quote

I saw, I think on done deal or fleabay, within the past year or two, one of those cast signs as above, which looked to be quite recently cast. Someone still at it...... wonder could he run me off a pack of €200 notes! Quote
0 Galteemore Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 (edited) I have vague memories of Galteemore Snr commissioning replica enamel signs of a similar nature in the 80s. These were clearly parcelled and sold as such, I should add ! Edited August 8, 2020 by Galteemore Quote

Curiously missing the comma in Company's. Unlike these days, they were sticklers for correct punctuation. Edited August 8, 2020 by minister_for_hardship 1 Quote
0 WRENNEIRE Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Picked up a few bits recently Rear of the sign Anyone know the story about GNRB Signs ? And how they could be mounted, rubbed onto a mounting board? 4 Quote
