So its been a while since the last post, not sure where the time has gone.

As we have a couple of shows this year we thought it was time to get the trainset out and set it up and work though some of those jobs that are meant to be 5 or 10 minutes ones but seam to take a lot longer. So to start we had a bit of a photo session for new stock. Just couldn't resist having them both on the layout.

Hi all,

So we have a show coming up in 32 days. A local one for a change, which for those of you who exhibit means that after the show I can be home in 20 mins instead of the 3-5 hours that its normally takes. which will be nice.

One thing that we have always had an issue with after we installed the servo wa the barcket signal as its not the eaiest thing to get to and would alwys work during testing but would stop with in the first 5 mins of a show. So with the show looming, it was decided, well I decided it was time to take it off the layout and do some work on it so out wth the large screw drivers and out it came.

One of the issues was the pull rod wasn't working as well as it should and was running over the edge of the platform causing drag. Out with the drill and some new wire.

Now runs alot smoother.

Just need to blacken the pull rods, fir new balance weights, make a new base. Fill the hold in the base baord to fit the new base, connect it all up and test it. Count down is on!!

Hold on...... that's a MODEL?

WOW!

Thank you for the kind comment. At times we do wonder if it is, as the look out keeps making a bid for freedom but always ends up in the trees close by...

The days are ticking away and the siganl is progressing.

The new base is installed ready to have the new hole cut in it. The siganl its self has been reassembled and is a lot smoother and hopefully you cant tell that its been apart.

I love this layout - an absolute stunner, as noted by many others!

The strong corporate image of BR in the "blue" days - one of the best such i've ever seen - was of great interest - a but like CIE in the late 50s / early 60s with the tail end of steam intermingled not just with new diesels, but newer rolling stock too, and a new livery dosplacing an old one by degrees.

My first exposure to it was on a family holiday in North Wales in about 1969, when the local trains were railcar sets, and a number of classic diesel types were on main line stuff - I remember 47s and either 24s or 25s, and (I think) 37s.

The railcars I saw were all plain blue - none blue and grey - with the odd one still green. Similarly, most carriages were blue and grey but maybe 20% of them were still maroon. Blue diesel locos and green ones intermingled too - much for me to see. We went to Crewe one day - Senior doubtless wanting to do a bit of train spotting - and I got several of those old ABC "spotters" books. One on locos, a couple on railcars. Had 'em for years.

(Sorry; being Brexitstan, I probably should have been referring to railcars "DMU"s.....)

So with less thn 6 days to go till the show, what do you do, decide to take a siganl off as after it be ing worked on before its vome loose on the base. The only signal to be screwed to the base, the rest being soldered. First up, apart from making a hole on the layout, is to make a new base for it.

So the dust has settled from GETS, which was the last of the 2024 bookings for Charwelton into the 80s. Lots of intrest in the layout at the show with a crowd along the front all day on both days. Didnt get that many photos as we were just running as many trains as we could. One of the team managed to get this shot of the MGR working on the up.

I'd love to see this in the flesh. One of my favourite layouts.

You never know what the future holds 😉

A view of the front of the layout.
