For the record an A Class made it to to Derry at least once and to Omagh a few times before the Derry Road closed in 1965.

New one to me! I knew 141s did.... have you details?

From IRRS Journal 186 confirmed by an ex GNR man who acted as pilot man for CIE staff.

Superb, Jimmy! I missed that...!

An “A” also did a trial run in Wisht Caaark..... I think it got to Skibbereen, but unsure about Baltimore or Bantry....

Pretty sure it didn't reach Bantry, but not sure about Baltimore. I'll have to see if I can dig out some notes...

Sorry for posting photo of the A Class at St Johnston in 1961. Check out your own IRRS Journal 186 instead. At least 1 made it to Derry and a couple as far as Omagh after 1958.

Apart from the picture in Journal No. 186, in "Farewell the Derry Road" there is also one (by Des Fitzgerald) of A51 also in green livery at Beragh in 1963 working the 'Pilgrim Train'.

From what I've read the an "A" did go to Skibbereen and Bantry on one test run, and to Clonakilty on another seperate run. It never got to baltimore due to concerns about Illen bridge and never got on the T&C section for obvious reasons!
