  1. Looking forward to catching it recorded - missed the live one. We really are spoiled right now - Irish railway heritage and fine models being showered upon us. Railcar was E or F apparently @Irishswissernie
  2. I have used similar stuff for 2 recent layouts, JB. Most happy with it...
  3. Nothing wrong with clockwork. My brother has custody of this ....
  4. And it’s DCC - powered by a digitally compressed coil ....
  5. Didn’t want to spoil the surprise Jim by telling you up front ! Some cracking NG images in there.....once I managed to tear myself away from the SLNC bit..
  6. I’d use contact adhesive myself for that sort of thing - Thin coat on each surface, allow to get tacky, then bond together.
  7. Sorry - only the vaguest memory of an office-like set up with comfy chairs. In those pre-iPhone days I didn’t bother much with photos - which I regret given some of the things I now remember as lost treasures such as Bray-Greystones push-pulls.
  8. Such a shame. Loved their stuff, which got me back into trains. Especially the Prussian S6 I had....
  9. Is that the one to Westport or thereabouts? If so I was on it and distinctly remember sitting in the exec coach for part of the journey back.
  10. Certainly visited eastern seaboard of Ulster eg Carnlough where there was also a steam and cable powered tramway....the scene is still recognisable....I think steam had gone by the 20s but the last cable working was in the 70s I believe..
  11. Not a bad idea, David. A little competition, perhaps, to focus our minds in these trying days, for an Irish themed box file? Sorry, I mean of course comhad bosca .

    BBC Rewind

You may have come across this already but it was news to me. BBC NI have made a huge archive of video clips available online...https://bbcrewind.co.uk/ A search for ‘train’ or ‘railway’ unearths a treasure trove - including Donegal railcars running at Derry Victoria Rd in 1978. A 1957 clip shows an MPD set with an impressive freight load behind, whilst a 1978 short movie with one Liam Neeson in his jobbing actor days includes cracking archive - and the only sound clip I have ever heard of ‘Lough Erne’ at work. Sadly there are of course many depressing clips of NIR being dragged into the Troubles, but some lovely blue and maroon all the same ...
  13. And what a book it is - cheers Ernie ! Unbeknownst to me, Galteemore Snr had already ordered me a copy which landed today. Amazing what you could see in a week in 1950. SLNC section is a joy, pure and simple. Some angles I hadn’t seen before. I used to be a big fan of BR (Southern) and had seen RC Riley’s work there. But his Irish stuff is terrific. If you like Irish railways in the 50s, you’ll love this.
  14. Indeed it is the Cultra one. Here’s another angle showing a little more....
  15. IIRC there was some corridor First stock on the Enterprise in the 80s. My dad was on the first run of the GM-hauled set in 81 and I dimly recall a photo of him in a compartment with the other RPSI office-holders.
  16. Prototypical to the last, Mr H. Even your uploads run at SLNC line speed!
  17. Courtesy of Chester MRC, here’s a view inside one of the Cavan and Leitrim 4-4-OTs - probably not far off the 2-4-2T interior. Although by the mid 50s none of them were quite this pristine !
  18. Brief lacuna in work, due to relocation of workshops! Mrs Galteemore is a lady of great wisdom and sagacity, and sees the importance of arts and crafts in human life. However, my activity was rather taking over the shared craft room. So she suggested that I move from the craft room and, as it’s so difficult to host guests right now I may as well repurpose the entire guest room for modelling! We have now moved the kit, so hopefully work will recommence very soon (on a Leitrim understanding of ‘soon’.....). It’s a cracking space to use so I have no excuses now !
  19. Absolutely spot on -thanks @Edo.
  20. Thanks David - just wonderful. Pure Sligo Leitrim atmosphere ! Two hundred hours well spent. When you say cut down bogies, I’m keen to know a little more, as to how you did that. I have looked at the Slaters ones and wondered just how one could set about it......
  21. Looking forward very much to this. My family holidays to grandparents in Dromahair c1980 were not exactly Bacchanalian beach extravaganzas, so to escape the confines of the farm, my dad (who had travelled the length of the Burma Road on freights) took us on ‘closed line safaris’. Thus we saw the SLNC remains regularly, (the trackbed at Soxline curves was about 1/4 mile away) but I especially remember Tubbercurry and the northern reaches of the Burma Road. Circa 1980 the line was slumbering almost intact -and really fired my imagination at the age of 9. Interesting to note that the WLWR felt the line could be worked by 4-4-2Ts.
  22. Great stuff John. Neat little jig too....
  23. Cheers Leslie - hate to be pedantic but it was 42 on the Inchicore workman’s train I was referring to!
  24. This is wonderful. One hates to be greedy but Sir Henry on the 7:20 would be a lovely sequel ...
  25. Yes, my dad knew her from the late 50s, I think. Always speaks very highly of how kind she was to him and his friends. I dimly remember her myself from travelling in the 80s.
