  1. Sounds like a good plan. Once you try 5’3 modelling it’s hard to go back ! Would be interested to see how you get on with the A class. I have long term plans to build one - as sold to the SLNC
  2. A few people on here may chip in with other good advice - @murphaph @KMCEamongst others…
  3. Excellent. I built one in 7mm to 5’3 gauge and finished her in green.would love to see the pics - not showing here.
  4. 4-4-0s are notoriously hard to get right in model form, and various solutions have been advanced to assist. I won’t bore you with my own GN 4-4-0 weight plan as it’s not relevant to this situation. Try sticking some weight in the cab - temporarily at first - and see if that helps. Lovely work by the way - the late Iain Rice would have thoroughly approved. This thread may also help
  5. The O gauge trade show in Guildford was fairly quiet too. Although I took it in early afternoon when most of our demographic normally have their nap.
  6. The body design is incredibly similar. The story of how the articulated Irish railcar began probably lies in the Clogher Valley archives. It was their Railcar 1 which really set the course for all that followed, being delivered in Dec 32. Walkers did the power unit, body and rear bogie being provided by Dundalk. Walkers were still using it for publicity purposes in 1934. The sheer style of C and similar does suggest a professional commercial coachbuilder’s eye being brought to bear on the concept.
  7. Don’t be so self critical - that’s instantly recognisable! Great work - captured the look of it nicely already. I can just about recall the real thing.
  8. Some of it’s S scale. Worth approaching him with dimensions you need and seeing if anything in his range is ballpark. Think he batch builds.
  9. I think the table also played a key part in the layout of the ‘workshops’ at Waterford (a set up which made Manorhamilton look like Swindon or Crewe) which might also explain the discrepancy.
  10. Shows what kind of house I grew up in….this is the ‘Erne’ I pictured first of all when I read that. By the by, it may well be the most popular Irish loco name of all. At least 4 engines - 3 of them running concurrently - had it as a full or partial title….
  11. Looks good. Although if that’s an ingredients shelf above the food mixer I’d be reluctant to partake in any cake or buns at your house….
  12. Showed this to my dad, as it looked shabbier than I remembered in later pics. Apparently UTA painted in 62-63 - just in time before closing it!
  13. Wonderful work. Can’t get over how fast you work. I’d still be agonising about cutting the etches !
  14. It’s an outstanding book. You will really enjoy it. A must for any serious steam age modeller.
  15. Here’s your answer / check the ad again …..
  16. I asked seller myself. Will post here if he/she responds
  17. Ask the seller ? I have often had such enquiries when selling on EBay and will give a simple answer if asked nicely.
  18. There were a few nice green ones for GW 150….
  19. Agreed. Great stuff. Those brown vans were big - this short vid shows similar traffic around Belfast c1962 - with a bonus bit of 800 going north….https://youtu.be/ac3uEgqAETg
  20. Fair enough Andy….and at least the GW had one decent loco …2927 Saint Patrick!
  21. That’s lovely work. Shows the real character of the original
  22. If it’s so great, why are you modelling the 5’3 and not 7’ Andy ? And yes, I did spend years of my life living in Wilts near Wootton Bassett junction so I do know about the Greasy Wet and Rusty….
  23. They look nice Leslie, agreed. But there’s only one railway where the G stands for Glorious! http://eiretrains.com/steamindex/#GNR171_20100818_003_CC_JA.jpg
  24. Glenfarne is the way to go. Can’t even see the join!
  25. I think Northport Quay would also benefit from an SLNCR 0-6-2T…..
