British stuff from the Catacombs
Irishswissernie replied to jhb171achill's topic in British Outline Modelling
The freight train is at Barmouth and is mainly composed of gunpowder wagons + barrier vans probably working to Penrhynduedraeth for loading. The narrow gauge is the Vale of Rheidol line at Aberystwyth. -

I would examine the photograph more closely and you will see that the photo has been doctored -

Top one is at what remains of Saltburn station. Coaches were 4 wheeled junk heaps which we had to put up for years on the Haltwhistle to Newcastle line, this particular class (143) were all transfered away from the North East to the South West and Bristol area but their close sisters the Class 142 soldiered on until a few years ago. -

Stirling station I think. -
I had better add some Irish images as a penance for the Scottish one I put on IRM this morning! West Clare Railway, Corofin 4 November 1960, I think the train was shunting a cattle wagon into the siding judging by other views from the same day. Next Newry Edward Street & Goraghwood 24 August 1962. EDITED Clonakilty 5 November 1960. Drimoleague same date.

Back in the early 1980's traffic to Stranraer was still quite heavy with through trains from London Euston as well as Newcastle and the regular service from Glasgow. Here is the overnight Boat train from Euston at Glenwhilly where we used to kip down for the night. I caught the day Euston service one day and the guard told me that the train only had some 64 passengers on it. -

Stranraer Harbour station. Still open today but I think all the ferry services now go from Cairn Ryan on the other side of the Loch, and the Harbour station isn't very convenient for the town being half a mile out on the end of a spit of land. It would make far more sense to build a new station at the old shore end to cater for the town's inhabitants who are probably the only potential travellers today. -

Ex Caledonian Railway shed at Perth . Locos are Pickersgill 0-6-0 and 4-4-0's. -
Here is an interesting negative of a train on the Cork City Railway 4 November 1960. I reckon that its probably been taken from the Brake Van judging by the chap with the trolley, as I think human nature being what it is he's looking for the end of the train passing so he can get over the road. He could however be wondering 'Who's that nosey so-and-so on the engine taking photos of me' I think he also has a small child perched on the 'trolley' . Did they have wheelie luggage then? Never seen that modelled before!

Working through some more closed station views today. These 5 are all ex Cavan & Leitrim Railway 19 April 1968. First one Ballinamore; this had me puzzled for a while as post closure the owner had moved a door and also bricked in the glazed area. All to no avail as I think this may now under the bypass. Next Drumshanbo where the bypass now runs along the trackbed but most of the buildings including the water tower are still there. The washing line however is probably another 'fatality'. Next is a former road crossing, I think this is on the Arigna Extension as there are gate posts on the railway. Probably the R285 road and the cottage is buried in the undergrowth on Google Earth. EDIT The cottage is Arigna station with the extension to the mines crossing the road; thanks Andy! The last two are Dromod and I think Kiltubrid.
