  1. I also have the WTT for 31May 1948. The service then was even worse than in the 1950's Cork to Baltimore was treated as the main line with a single connection each way to Bantry from Drimoleague. The sole passenger service was designed to bring passengers to Cork in the morning with a return service in the evening. Probably due to post war coal shortages etc My copy of the West Cork book has no binding problems. Ernie
  2. If you can find a copy of this book, privately published a few years ago 186 page hardback , plenty of text and illustrated in colour and monochrome with contributions from numerous enthusiasts and photographers. Covers the last years of the railway. I can't remember how I found out about it, inside the front cover is the name Print & Publish, St Neots, Cambs and a phone number 01480 400290 Its somewhat rare , I have never found another copy. regards Ernie
  3. June 1957 Working Timetable on my Flickr CB&SC Album ( They are not copyright the overlay was added on the whole album in error) Ernie
  4. This Casserley image might be of interest to carriage devotees! 1955-04-12 Cork Rosslare boat train HC img391 from HCC's notes 57'-6'' 12w dining car 353 D10 gaslit wdn 1968 Ernie
  5. Fertiliser wagons arrived today. Wagons are superb and run very smoothly. I removed all the loads from 1 wagon but won't be attempting the single pallets again as my eyes and arthritis are not up to it. Unfortunately I had also cremated a pan of potatoes whilst I was up in the loft for an hour +, this will no doubt be followed by a grilling + roasting tonight when someone gets in from her job. Cookery! BAH!!! Ernie
  6. NOW SOLD & Paid for Ernie
  7. When the orange bubbles came out I purchased the 2 sets E & F as a measure of support as I thought they might not sell as well as the Ivorys . Proved wrong as usual! I don't need them so if anyone wishes to re-patriate them please PM me Price £125 (sterling|) per set this should cover Paypal fees and postage. They havn't been out of the boxes. Ernie NOW DEFINITELY SOLD AND PAID FOR
  8. Cowans Sheldon Carlisle in the 1960's. The railway is the Carlisle to Newcastle line also used by the Settle & Carlisle services. Sadly as regards the Works, all that's left today is that low stone wall in the foreground, the site is now a retail park - Asda Halfords etc. Ernie
  9. I am continuing to add views taken by HC Casserley & Gerald T Robinson to Flickr. I like this view of ex GNR JT 91 at Broadstone in October 1960 Flickr seem to be having financial problems! They say the site is losing 'millions' and are desperately trying to get people to re-new their pro subs early. Mine is due in June 2021 and they are offering to extend it for 2 years at pre-increase price. All a bit worrying, I've already gone through this with the demise of Fotopic some years ago; if Flickr goes to the wall I don't think I will be starting again. Ernie
  10. I don't think its a Dining Car, no windows for the Diners!. More likely a Kitchen Car. Ernie
  11. I think the GNRI had one, very similar but built a few years after the Oxford version with a solid Jib and a rudimentary cab. Preserved by RPSI at Whitehead. Ernie
  12. Added a splash of colour to Flickr today; it probably didn't stay that clean for long! Ernie
  13. I've been looking for a model one too for Glengarriff. The ones used at North Wall were more like a 'fork lift' type, however at Ballina one basically similar to the Oxford Model Reach Stacker (photo enlargment below) was used Ernie
  14. Gerald Robinson describes this as an ex D&SER Buffet Car. Limerick Junction 24 October 1960. Desmond Coakham mentions a Kitchen Car converted from a bogie Brake coach, could this be it? ERNIE
  15. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/PHOTO-INCHICORE-RAILWAY-LOCO-SHED-/362618481531?hash=item546dbeeb7b Its a photo on Ebay, not brilliant but you can see that the coaling tower bunker was fed by wagons being winched up the right hand side to the top and there is a gap between it and the old trestle. There is also a photo on page 13 of Midland Publishings book "Great Southern Railways, an Irish Railway Pictorial by Donal Murray. Ernie
  16. Another 118 Negatives to go from GT Robinson and a fair number of HC Casserley negs ignoring the duplicates as he was fond of taking a fair number of near identical shots. Apparently he did his own developing etc so hedged his bets re processing the film. Ernie
  17. It is at Inchicore, I've found another photo on the Net that confirms that the trestle to the coal stage was redundant when the Coaling Tower came into use. The trestle line would have then just be used for storage hemce the various wagons on there. Ernie
  18. An enlargment of a photo I took at Tralee station in June 2001. Bagged Lime curtain side 20' IR insignia on side. Ernie
  19. A query about this one, Gerald Robinson lists this as Inchicore but the raised trestle doesn't ring a bell whereas Broadstone did have one. Can anyone confirm location! 716 23 Oct 1960 Thanks. Ernie
  20. This Consent Leasing Container being loaded at Mallow didn't have the large motif on the sides, just a small one in the top right corner. You can see the whole container in this video plus a further selection of others. Ignore the black thumbnail and just press the play the video icon. From about 4 minutes -40 secs in. Bachmann did Consent Leasing containers but possibly not the correct prototype. Ernie
  21. Turf Burner 23 Oct 1960 GT Robinson Broadstone October 1960 Guinness Brewery Oct 1960 Ernie
  22. Flickr is getting busier now its Christmas I think because its a therapeutic refuge for harassed husbands suffering from frantic purchasing by their loved ones of several tons of comestibles as the shops are going to be shut for 24 hours! Here are a few of Gerald Robinson's from October 1960. Broadstone October 1960 Ernie
  23. The photographer Gerald T Robinson also gave me his notebook and he has it down as GNR Leyland Railbus No 2 at Inchicore 23 October 1960. I looked up the info in the 'bible' Norman Johnston's "Locomotives of the GNRI page 165.It's number as built in Jan 1935 was F but when the Diesel Railcars D E F & G came along the railbus was re-numbered F3 In 1944 F3 was damaged in an accident and another road bus was converted to replace it also being numbered F3. In 1947 the GNR again re-numbered this railbus as 2. At the same time 2 further railbus's were taken over from the DN&GR and the the 4 became Nos 1 to 4 Of these 3 was scrapped in 1955. 1 & 4 were transfered to Departmental use in 1956 leaving 2 as the last one in public service The other 2 were re-numbered8178 and 8177. 8178 went to the UTA and is the one preserved as Railcar 1 at Cultra. 8177 was scrapped by CIE. I reckon the photograph is of the replacement F3 converted in 1944 after withdrawal from public service. The GNRI appears to have converted a total of 7 road buses of this type 2 for the SLNCR, 2 for the DN&GR and 5 (1 being a replacement) for themselves. Many thanks to the late Norman Johnston for ferreting all this info out, I hope I have interpreted it correctly. Now I'm off for a lie down! ERnie
  24. Here is another GT Robinson shot from October 1960 Probably not as comfortable as an ICR but far more interesting Ex GNRI railbus 2 (F3) I think Ernie
