  1. The Branch train was an IRRS Special, the scans only identify it as Dublin - Athy Tour 1956 which clearly went a bit further . There are views at Kildare, Bagenalstown and stations on the branch as far as Palace East but none of how the train returned to Dublin. It appears as if the Loco has run round and probably took the line back to Bagenalstown etc.. Locos identified on scans as 196 and 343 ERnie
  2. Another view has come to light in the files, not quite what you wanted but it is the western end of Palace East 1956 Ernie
  3. I thought Palace East rang a bell, HC &/or RM Casserley travelled on the IRRS special on the 9 July 1960 and took medium format photos from Bagenalstown to Palace East which are in a Lot I obtained at the recent auction. They took the usual view at Palace East but as its a decent negative I have done a couple of enlargments to bring out the station building and loading bank details.
  4. Journal of the IRRS Vol 19 No 133 June 1997, 10 page article by John Langford, Wexford to Waterford in 1959. Signal diagram of Palace East and 3 photos taken in 1962 of the station. I also have a scan from the ARPT of 196 in 1956 Ernie
  5. I had mine pre-ordered on Amazon and it arrived last week. The book offers excellent coverage of the Irish railway scene from ca 1980; of particular interest to me are the wealth of views covering the freight workings. Amberley have also again improved the quality of the paper. Definitely one for your bookshelf. Ernie
  6. It was a firm called Linka, basically you cast your own parts in a mould using some powdery stuff mixed with water. This is the company who seem to have taken over from the original firm. https://www.scalecast.co.uk/linka-moulds.html#/ I experimented with the idea but adapting the bits/castings produced with a bit of scratch building. Below is one I made earlier (well some 39 years earlier!) I think I sold it many years ago. 4mm scale
  7. A link to this article. Apparently the gantry was only erected in 1995 and removed in 2009. https://www.pressreader.com/ireland/the-argus/20090128/282376920466924 Ernie
  8. Ardee Road replaced the Barrack Street yard and was built on the formation of the route from Dundalk station westwards to Clones. I don't have any photos of the yard but did manage to video 072 shunting the yard from Dundalk platform so gives some idea of the traffic handled towards the end of the freight services. 072 arrived from Belfast and after depositing the Belfast wagons added further wagons from the sidings and yard. Shunting was complicated by the need to keep bogie wagons at the front and any bubbles at the rear of the train to facilitate dropping them off at Drogheda. The next video on flickr continues the sequence. Ernie
  9. I'm O/T as usual but they appeared 2000/2001. I travelled in the set in this view which was a Sunday Football extra to Portlaoise behind 077 in June 2001 and only odd coaches were appearing then as they were re-painted. I have added the video to Flickr of this train, the video also features a somewhat ailing 208 (luckily on Mark3's so back on topic!) https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/49054699726/in/dateposted-public/ Ernie
  10. The structure on the left looks like the end of the Sligo coal stage
  11. Unfortunately no more Irish narrow gauge, there are approx 50 Irish " standard " gauge Trust views still to upload and I have a fair number of recently acquired HC Casserley views to put on. There again I am meeting my mate from the Trust tomorrow at Newcastle Show and he might have something new! Ernie
  12. Just realised I have a view of Capecastle taken by the late JW Armstrong and in the ARPT Archives on my flickr site. Its uploaded as a link so as not to infringe my permissions from the Trust. https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/23517901282/in/album-72157627623204943/ Ernie
  13. The remains of the Westport one can be seen on the left: Ernie
  14. At Enniskillen even though there appears to be a coal bank complete with a crane to load the coal it seems that the coal loaders preferred to transfer it straight from wagon to tender! Some hefty lumps of coal on view. 22April1953 AL class 59 HC Casserley photographer. Given where Belmullet is I imagine that if it had existed the M&GWR would have probably provided a concrete coal bank and not much else. Ernie
  15. A few from my Flickr album , the Geep is from ca 1964 and UG49 probably late 50's . The station building/overall roof is adjacent to No 49 and was quite ornate. Ernie
  16. I havn't got much options for Murphy Models as I live in the 'Wilds of Wannie' (Geordie term for back of beyond) and their nearest stockists are all well over a 100 miles away, I don't drive and public transport fares will amount to over £90. So Hattons it is and I have never had any problems with them (tempting fate here!) Ernie
  17. Second one with B150 is Galway as well. Distinctive Goods store Ernie
  18. Three more HC Casserley images, all SLNC rolling stock, Enniskillen, Cattle wagons 115 & 78, Manorhamilton, Brake Van No 1 & Dromahair, Brake van no 6. 22 April 1953 The Brake vans look similar but the side planking strips are different in number/width. Just noticed the footboards are different too! Ernie
  19. Had an email from Hattons this morning giving a confirmed discounted pre-order price of £149-50, anticipated delivery late November 2019, early 2020. A pleasant surprise re the price and fingers crossed re the delivery dates. I have 6 IR and IE versions on order. Ernie Sorry for the duplication, OLD Blarney beat me to it!
  20. I have been adding further Casserley images to Flickr; the easiest way to see new additions is to check out the photostream: https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/? All images are in the relevant albums. 3 of Clonakilty uploaded today. 36 at the terminus 12 April 1955. Coach number 39m Ernie
  21. I've been working my way through the Casserley negatives I acquired at the Auction in September. The condition varies from poor to very good, unfortunately the 2 Irish lots appear to have suffered more from scratches, development faults etc than the Scottish Lots. I have cleaned up them up as much as possible. Here are a couple at Enniskillen in April 1953 and a shot of an Irish Sleeping Car! at Mallow. This must have been a crew car; hopefully that's not the bedding being aired on the roof Henry appeared quite fond of taking the same shot multiple times. There are 10+ views of 199 and the same number of Lurganboy at Manorhamilton. I will gradually upload images to Flickr, there are some of Bundoran Junction uploaded yesterday. Ernie
  22. I've added 5 to Flickr taken by the late JW Armstrong ca 1950. I keep forgetting that I still have some Armstrong Irish scans to upload. These 5 are at the beginning (at present) of the photostream. There are other views of the Athlone side showing a little of the infrastructure in the album these are uploaded to. https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/ Ernie
  23. Bundle ordered, its been an expensive month thanks to H C Casserley and now IRM, but then you can't take it with you! Ernie
  24. The Casserly Auction went ahead yesterday and I was lucky enough to win 9 lots although only 2 of these are Irish negatives totalling some 200+ ex GNRI Enniskillen/Bundoran SLNCR and Cork/Rosslare/CBSC areas, 1950. THe narrow gauge went for far more but I did manage to get the lot of 150 covering the Isle of Man in 1950. I just have to arrange delivery now, scan them and they will be on Flickr in due course. The Auctioneers told me this is only half the collection and there will be a further sale next year. Ernie
