  1. A very impressive start. The concrete does indeed look very realistic. Looking forward to more updates.
  2. Amazon claimed to have delivered my copy but it wasn't in our letterbox as stated. Asked around the neighbours etc. but nobody had it. Driver seems to have dumped it or dropped it off somewhere completely wrong. Anyway, Amazon returned my money and I have reordered this morning, having given it a week to see if someone would come by with it. Edit: The initial order was with Amazon UK. The new order is with Amazon Germany it seems. Price has dropped by a fiver too.
  3. I'm definitely not a professional but I would go straight to DCC but a half decent DC controller should still be in your arsenal to test locos and perhaps run them in.
  4. Welcome Geeb. Great to see more people getting into the hobby! If you say where you are I'm sure someone could loan you a trafo to test.
  5. Chris Dyer does repaints which should pass muster.
  6. There has been acres of words in studies on various rail projects printed since the 70's. We've built what, 0 new miles of heavy rail? And reopened what, a dozen miles or something? (and closed more than that of course). We talk a good talk but we are still talking about stuff that was "about to start" when I left Ireland almost 15 years ago. Berlin, a broke ass city, has managed to build more new heavy (and indeed light) rail than us since I came to this part of the world, and we are supposedly a wealthy country.
  7. They could stick the €500 in prize bonds I suppose.
  8. Wait till B. Ogle hears about all this...
  9. Welcome to the forum Adrian. Best of luck in your search
  10. Indeed. I already have my two full rakes of gypsums but to anyone who bought just the one rake, now's your chance to buy another (at a great discount) to model the empty train going back to Kingscourt Remember this train ran from Kingscourt to Limerick 3 times a week.
  11. Good to see "mainstream" British reviewers looking at Irish stuff though.
  12. Did any of you guys order it from Amazon and have it delivered from Amazon UK to the EU duty paid? Amazon UK tells me it has been shipped and assure me that taxes are all paid etc. but, well, you know...
  13. Bang goes the kid's xmas presents.
  14. For those interested in GB outline especially, there are quite a few (advertised) discounts on their website this week. Got an email with this link this morning: https://www.modellbahnunion.com/sonderangebote.htm I honestly have no idea if these are good prices or not but they are an EU retailer so no Brexit headaches.
  15. I was amazed how much better the finish was when I put the can in a warm water bath (not having a hot press). Totally changed the consistency. By the way my (German) missus once remarked that 'hot press' sounds more like an implement of torture than somewhere to make your towels nice and fluffy lol.
  16. You had me sold with the front cover! 800 is a nice bonus!
  17. The biggest problem for 019 is that it never left Inchicore like that so it's difficult to justify it on any layout really. It would be stretching rule one to the limit for most people I suspect
  18. I'm afraid it'll have to be amazon for me JB. It's just easier with postage to buy off amazon Germany. Free postage as I have a Prime account too. Order placed. They are saying 21st November on there.
  19. Smashing video. For some reason I always thought this layout was much smaller than it is. The "stage" effect thanks to the valances and lighting is something I'd like to achieve on my layout someday.
  20. Is that on sale already JB? I want to pick one of those up for sure.
  21. I had the German customs incorrectly levy VAT on a small item marked as a gift (from a kind forum member here). It was a 10GBP gift. It was well under the €45 gift threshold. I appealed and went through the (long) formal process and got my €2.22 refunded to me. It did it out of principle. The system is ridiculous. They should be able to treat stuff from say China suspiciously as they often use false declarations commercially. Let them inspect all Chinese parcels then. The crack a nut with a sledgehammer method is nonsense.
  22. I've no pointers on the photos but welcome to the forum
  23. I don't mind the wait, was really just concerned that maybe my order had slipped through the cracks as September was mentioned previously. It's all good I'm sure it'll be worth the wait too
