New IRM Announcement - Original Taras! (and Newer Livery too)
Westcorkrailway replied to Warbonnet's topic in News
Nahhhhhhhhh I don’t think I meant an intercity 201 anyways.........Thursday is just a few hours away and already we’re getting updates -
Your getting your 201 re-run soon enough, which means it’s our turn again

The model above was mode on another thread by @Mike 84Cin 2015 presumably for the Bantry layout. It would look very nice behind the Bandon tank! Superb modelling Since hattons have a generic 6 wheel design that fits for many (some) of the Irish prototypes that in one of there waves they would release one in a CIE livery of some sort. Alas I’ve lost faith it will happen but there is always a chance IRM will release one of those GSWR designs that got Black and Tan liveries, though in the very far future if an idea were to exist

to be fair, there is a difference between an Irish livery Hymek and Irish livery 6 wheel coaches. Nothing on our rails even remotely looked like a hymek. But our coaches strongly resembled those in the UK There isn’t to much up roar across the water that an LMS coach is using the same prototype as a LNER, GWR, GCR, SCER and LBSCR etc. I’m sure if a 3rd wave of hatton’s coaches had a CIE or NCC variant we would be quite excited, if IRM did it even more so (although personally I’m hoping for something along the lines of a Park Royal first)

(A clean!)Grey 121 on green coaches always looked very appealing to me. Looks superb here

Were the 90s the greatest era in Irish Railways?

Were the 90s the greatest era in Irish Railways?
Westcorkrailway replied to declan64's topic in General Chat
For my 2 cents For me the greatest period in Irish railway history was the only early 1960s. Huge varietly of lines, steam locos still plying his trade introduction of first GM locos, Livery variety was huge, coaching stock variety was also huge, narrow gauge was still in use......... -
What closed lines have people been on?
Westcorkrailway replied to jhb171achill's topic in General Chat
I did Newport-Westport and back recently. For me the worst section of the greenway (however I presume that because the much of the new road was built on the trackbed. A keen railway enthusiast can spot the alignment leading up to and where the tunnel is from the greenway. It’s so close yet so far being locked behind a set of gates and a cattle crush. -
my favourite layout currently in progression. Looks very realistic

All inspiration for next years IRM catalogue Anyways, I'm off to malahide

They recently installed mini toy diggers and remote control boats! Most of the money is made of season tickets that allow access 12 months of the year which many locals with children utilise. The origional locos to run the lines were 1:24 scale CBPR tank engines but they didnt take curves to well and neither did they take well to sea air. Instead the american locos cheap and east use the system However......i saw the other week that maybe....something is changing. Spotted about 2 weeks ago alas Still the wrong railway....but a C&MLR tank engine and flying snail 6 wheel coach (possibly the first authentic West Cork peice to use these lines!) and the signal box being put back into its place at albert quay....maybe some that kiddy money is being put to use still, as it stands, the only reason to go the west cork model village as an enthusiast os gawking at the ruston and rolling stock, buying the dvd/book, looking at the few mesusum peices thankfully provided by chris larkin. And looking at the towns themselves

They sell these in mother jones flea market for 35 euros was always tempted by the "C&BR" one to put on a gate pillar or something. Makes that bantry excursion poster i overpaid for look like peanuts in comparison as its actually verifiable real Speaking of which, saw somone claiming all these signs were authentic. One search of "railway signs" on done deal will reveal all https://www.donedeal.ie/collectibles-for-sale/10-antique-irish-railway-signs-pre-1920/28728511
