The first of the annual Christmas shopper special trains operated to and through Tara Junction today when , Control car 6102+4 Mk3 push pull+130 operating the Ballina-Dublin Pearse service 075 working a Dublin Heuston-Galway MK3 intercity Supertrain livery. 017 works the Sligo-Dublin Connolly Mk2D set 171 works the Athlone-Dublin Heuston Mk2a/b set, 080 works the other Mk2 a/b set forming the Tralee-Dublin Heuston service. NIR 450 class railcar 452 works a Dublin Connolly-Belfast relief service. — at Tara Junction Station.

The class 44 works a trans pennine express from Newcastle to Liverpool through Ashburton grove.

These Mk3s were purchased by Belmond for their Grand Hibernian luxury train-they were being shipped over to Scotland to be refurbished at that time in 2015, After Belmond finished here in Ireland in 2019-they were sent back again for another refurb job and are now part of the Britannic explorer train touring the UK-albeit not without their faults-they are currently back in the workshops for more attention.

My new adventure in Irish railway modelling has begun with my new micro/shunting layout Ballisodare mill, Set in Co Sligo-(of course)-the era will be 1970s through to the 1990s-to add variety of liveries. Thank you to @irishmail for initially building the diorama,I have plans to extend both ends to have a factory scene at one end, and a small fiddle yard at the other. Power is provided by an NCE power cab control system -which I purchased with a small collection a number of years ago. Confirmation of the project today from Sean Canney TD I'm very pleased to confirm that the Western Rail Corridor (Claremorris–Athenry via Tuam) is now secured as a targeted priority project in the new Transport Sectoral Plan - scheduled for delivery by 2030, with enabling works able to commence shortly. The plan also includes: • A series of new passing loops on the Sligo line, Westport/Ballina, Limerick–Waterford and the Dublin–Belfast line • A new platform at Limerick Junction to support Galway/Ennis–Waterford services • Additional platforms on Galway and Sligo routes to strengthen rail resilience • Progression of BusConnects Galway (2026–2030) • Galway City Ring Road, to begin construction once planning is secured • Claregalway Bypass and Athenry Inner Relief Road to design and development As the Minister responsible for the All-Island Strategic Rail Review, further measures for the West and North-West are under consideration - including double-tracking between Athenry and Galway and the potential extension of the Western Rail Corridor to Sligo. The plan also designates Galway as a Transport-Oriented Development city, unlocking major potential around Ceannt Station. The Western Rail Corridor is prioritised, scheduled and ready to progress - a major step forward for the West.
