  1. Thanks for showing, some nice touches there.
  2. Starting to re capture the feel of GtVSt. Well done.
  3. That’s easy, Hornby, SSM, MTK, Q Kits, Worsley Works, Model Irish Railways, Provincial Wagons, in fact just look in your ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of Irish related items and the answer is in front of you. You could always ask for pictures of made up kits from members rather than just showing unmade kits. Thanks again.
  4. Thanks Rich, would appreciate any photographs.
  5. Goods Shed at Clonmel. I’m thinking of building a Goods Shed based on the one at Clonmel (see Kirley Junction Layout thread) and am looking for photographs of it or similar ones. The photographs I have seen so far give me a limited view of three sides but none of the ‘road side’ wall. Any help would be most appreciated.
  6. I have been pondering for some time of what to do with the Centre Section of my layout but knew I wanted another station. My original thoughts were to do a City/Large Town Station but could not make up my mind. Last month I came across the Bachmann Irish Stone Station which I never bought because I thought it was too small for my idea of a Station. Then I discovered it was modelled on Clonmel Station so I looked it up on Ciaran Cooey’s excellent site: http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway%20Stations%20C/Clonmel/IrishRailwayStations.html. I was delighted to see the Bachmann Station was only a part of the Station buildings and that made up my mind to use the Bachmann model as a base and build the rest of the Station to join it. Glenderg has taken on the commission and from the footprint drawings he sent me I cut out a pattern to see how it would look on the layout. There is a Goods Shed on the Station Site and using the measurements Richie gave me I also made a pattern of its shape to see if would fit into my layout also. I may consider putting the Station on the curve section of track which would allow a greater distance between the Good Shed and the Station Buildings. I got a Bachmann Station this week and using photographs of the Station I have tried to do a mock-up of how the two parts would look together. I know the perspective is wrong as my skills in photography is limited so the blowing-up of 3 photographs and merge them together at approximately the right scale is not very accurate. It gives a rough idea but the Bachmann Model seems out of scale to the real thing (which Glenderg already hinted at). However I am hoping that a compromise can be made. There was a Signal Cabin opposite the Goods Shed at Clonmel and I think my Bachmann one would fit in there nicely. Lots of issues to be sorted out but at least a decision has been made.
  7. I must admit I’m feeling sad at the thought of this thread coming to an end. Many thanks Dave for keeping this going, I’m sure it got a bit tedious at times setting up another picture shoot but well worth it for us.
  8. A tidy job, good luck with the rest of the rake.
  9. Check this out, it's the building of a model in 4mm scale of the whole Ouse Viaduct. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/43107-ouse-viaduct/?fromsearch=1 It's just breath taking.
  10. 071 pulling a rake of Pockets Wagons which were extended to take 45' containers. See short video here:
  11. This might be worth a consideration but again it was mainly Hornby Stock. http://betws-y-coed.co.uk/attractions/item/1159/Conwy_Valley_Railway_Museum.html
  12. If you want a particular container that's not available elsewhere, you can provide Alex with good images of it and he will produce it for you.
  13. Finished off extending the rest of my Pocket Wagons and wanted to do a DFDS Liner but could not find any suitable DFDS decals. Then I came across DFDS Card Containers. I got them at ebay from a guy at Ballynahinch. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221139195488?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 They are easy enough to do but like everything else there is a technique to it. Scoring and cutting with a sharp scalpel. Folding right over the edges so you got crisp right angles. I put some weight on the base of the container and painted any white edges before assembling. The containers are finished with quite bright colours so a bit of weathering helped to tone them down. At last I got my DFDS Liner.
  14. Nice work on the Sulzer, it deserves some close up photographs of it's own as well as the weedkiller train. Looking forward to your MPD railcar set workshop thread. I want to do one also and hope to learn from your project.
  15. Saw this on the News last night, the numbers of passengers would need to increase as very few appeared on the first day
  16. I'm gathering up the materials and looking forward to your tutorial.
  17. Locos, carriages, wagons, buildings, Works, bridges, hoists, signals, containers, did I leave anything out? Fantastic array of models. O yes did I see a bridge surround that would fit nicely on my layout?
  18. If you want to see some genius modelling (Maritime) then take a look at the 'Caledonian Princess' built by Carl in Scotland for Colm Flanagan's layout. It's on the RM web site at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/22096-ho-scale-mv-caledonian-princess/ It was started in 2010 and only finished in May 2013. I can't wait to see it arrive at "Stranrare Harbour" on Colm's layout.
  19. My Gen Vans were built from MIR kits, you got the brass etched sides and used a Mk II donor coach. The roof detail was left up to you. Unfortunately MIR are no longer in business but sometimes their kits come up on ebay. As regard to their history, I step hesitatingly as my knowledge is not great. NIR introduced the Brake Standard Class Generating Van in 1981 and numbered them 911-913. In 1982 they introduced another two 914 & 915. When the NIR livery changed to Intercity they were repainted but only 911 was further repainted to match the Gatwick rake. Anyone please correct this if I have got this wrong.
  20. I have heard that Diageo has refused other model maker authority to use the Guinness Logo and threatened to prosecute them if they did.
  21. I have been looking for some Cement (Curtain Side) Pallet Wagon to add to my MIR rake and the only ones currently on sale is those provided by Irish Freight Models. I decided to buy their kit version and see how it compares with my MIR ones. In the kit you get: 1. A very thick resin body 2. End wheels 3. Decals. I placed IFM resin body onto a Dapol Chassis to compare both models. As you can see in the following pictures the IFM body was higher and narrower that the MIR one. It seemed to taper down making it narrower at the bottom possibly to fit onto a Dapol Chassis. I removed a few mm’s of the bottom of the IFM body to make it equal in height with the MIR one. As the strap detail on the NFM model was poor I added strips of 1 mm masking tape. I also added plastic card behind the wheel hubs to give the impression of a flat rather than the open structure. Probably did not make much of a difference. NFM provided side wheels for their kits which MIR did not. As I only had 2 wheel sets I decided not to use them. The NFM number decals were for the front wagon stanchions and from the limited photographs I have seen of these wagons they are accurate rather than the MIR end number placing. The ends of both wagons have different rib construction and I am unable to confirm which is the correct depiction. Overall the addition of the NFM models in a MIR rake don’t jump out as being very different to me except for the under frame detail and are worthy for consideration if you wanted to complete a rake of these wagons.
  22. Thanks guys, TL -Modellbau appears to be the only one who does a DFDS decal
  23. Does anyone do DFDS decals for 45' containers?
  24. I knew you would have a cunning plan...thanks
  25. Glad you came up with a solution Anthony - the VW Transporter spring door pin was certainly out of 'Left Field'. The bridge pillars look the part along with the water and plants. How do you lock it down to ensure smooth running across the gaps?
