Any of you guys likely to be at Doncaster Exhibition this week end?
  2. Its amazing how photos show up any flaws! I was happy with the cab handrails till I saw what I had posted!! Out with the de-bonder methinks. Thanks for the comments lads, it does spur me on a bit.
  3. She"s coming on I posted the pictures before undercoating so its obvious what additions and what bits I removed. The complete front running plate and the belpair firebox top and the cab roof are from a Dapol Prairie tank any white parts are made from plasticard. I did think it would be easier than it has been to do this conversion. but thats always the way!!
  4. Thanks for posting this clip of the RGS.I know have severe layout envy! How do these guys find the time to do all that modelling?
  5. The productivity of those guys is amazing! When I worked for the Festiniog Rly; we started spraying locos & coaches, superb finish but it was judged that the masking time plus the cost of running/consumables for the ventilation system was not cost effective. Also not many volunteers can spray paint!
  6. Just Jane is a fantastic plane, I found out about it 10yrs ago when we moved to the area, its about 15 miles from Digby, and I visited the museum at East Kirkby. Now that is a salutory place to go, lots of largeish chunks of broken airplane with the details of the usually young men who died when it crashed. And where what it was etc; makes me realize what we owe to a lot of, almost school leavers and very young men. But it is well worth a visit because the proceedes go to getting Just Jane flying. Panton Brothers who own the Lancaster also farm chickens and as I work part time for Moy Park foods, a good Irish firm, who they grow for i get to see it quite often in summer. So keep eating Moy Park chickens lads as some of that money goes to getting Just Jane flying.
  7. hey Dingle;I was near you on Friday! Delivering chicken feed, I could lead the charge of the shovels, only live 90min away. And the post Christmas diet has kicked in so the temptations of the Windmill could be resisted; for a little while!
  8. The pipe at the near end is definately for fuel. Its a 3"/2.5" bsp which would attatch to a roadtankers hose reel gun end. I think there is a fuel tank in both ends maybe connected. Its a mobile bowser. My view as an ex tanker driver.
  9. Well put RedRich, I have a Badger that must be 30yrs old, expensive then but it is still OK and does a good job although its a single action. i am up for a new Iwata but££££! I think the moral is buy the best you can afford or even not afford! because long term it will pay dividends when you get used to it. I run mine off a £100 MachineMart workshop compressor.Better for spraying, no pulsing, no water droplets, not so good in a house noisy and vibrates a lot! so I"m in the garage.
  10. Hey Patrick, your video is just great and the progress you have made in such a short time is a tribute to your efforts. Keep up the good work and I hope you have a good crew to operate with, it would be good fun. Ohio is a bit far to ask if I could help!! I shall enjoy watching your progress and maybe see your layout in the Model Railroad Crafsman? because its up there with the best. Mike
  11. Nicely put Robert, I used to work on good old British Railways. It saddens me when I think of all those men put out of work and a road network ram jammed full of traffic. Still its OK because its made quite a few higher management into multi millionaires. Now off soapbox! Mike
  12. Had another thought, as I"m new to things Irish, is there a supplier of Inchicore style smokebox fronts/doors and also the built up chimney used on large CIE locos? For me those highly visible parts are a signature that says GSR/CIE. Mike
  13. Gentlemen; thank you very much for all the advice. I am ruminating on the best way to get a reasonable likeness of 850. When I have something worth showing I shall post it. Mike
  14. Thats a mine of information and throws a lot of light on a tricky and emotive subject. I shall be able to paint my locos with confidance. Thank you for the time spent collating this information. Mike
  15. I ask because, in Clements&McMahon Locomotivies of the GSR there are a couple of close ups that appear to show a white and black line that makes a panel on the bunker rear and up around the cabside cut out. I did use a magnifying glass! And my wife also thinks the same and could she be wrong?!
  16. Did this loco run in lined green? and would it have been a similar green to the livery on the Maunsell 2-6-0"s. Looking for a bit of help here!
  17. Not me mate I only live here. You only qualify by being born here, I always thought "proud to be a yellow belly" was an odd bumper sticker!
  18. Staggering, thanks for sharing I hav"nt got enough lifetime to get anywhere near that standard. I"ll look inspiration at the NEC sunday & dodge the soap dodgers! Mike
  19. I am aiming for Sunday, coming from the flatlands of Lincolnshire means at least two change of train so will be in the car. Why does this hobby attract the great unwashed? Spalding was pretty noxious at times. So who will be clutching the rolled up newspaper with the flower between their teeth???? Just so as I know!
  20. Patric, thats a great start to your layout. I have layout envy! keep it coming.
  21. Hi Stephen, were the drawings I emailed not very clear or of no use? Mike
  22. Last weekend was the Spalding MRC show, as usuall lots of interesting layouts. But KIlbrandon was the star, for me! Ran well ,good atmosphere, well detailed and set in 1900 County Cork. Paul Greene who owns it has taken it to the Belfast Show so it does travel well. 5ft3" gauge looks really good in S scale and there are some stills on the S scale website. Worth looking.
  23. I also would take a model of 461, if you think about its appeal over lots of era"s why not put the idea to Mr Murphy? Just look at all the small market locos appearing on the British scene,I"ll bet superD"S are not flying off shelves like they did when first released. And ready to run must have a wide appeal to the younger market. Is"nt 461 on coil springs? this would give a very bouncey ride as there would be little damping, which is what you get with leaf springs.
