  1. Hunslet, is the Harlandic loco the one that looked sort of like a BR class 20?
  2. Thanks guys, I had been wondering about it for a while now.
  3. Did the 3 Hunslet locos only ever haul mk2s, or did they ever work with older NIR stock?
  4. Wow, that is one huge loco! Even half that would be massive in britain or ireland. Maybe IE will be inspired to return maedb to the mainline...
  5. Im starting thinking the same thing myself now 201bhoy, i will look at timetables and see what i could do to get there on time for the train. Do you think if i emailed IE they would tell me the times it runs? Thanks
  6. Sorry for double posting, but i was thinking, the branch to the mine leaves the mainline at drogheda station doesnt it? Hence, would i be able to see the train by standing at the end of drogheda platform?
  7. Hi there, Could anyone advise me as to the times of the Tara Mines trains, as myself and a friend are thinking of travelling down to see one? Also, if anyone knows the best stations not too far from drogheda (as we would be coming from belfast on the enterprise and getting an IE local at Drogheda, and dont really want to travel too far) to see the trains in motion at, it would be great? Thanks guys
  8. Very nice job hunslet. What are those supports made of?
  9. Those coaches look really well, good on marks models for comissioning them. Might get a small rake and run them behind my old Silver Seal hornby black five. Not prototypical obviously but hey, a large helping of modellers license never hurt anyone
  10. Railer, where the mk3s that went to inchicore moved by rail or on trucks?
  11. If you are interested, i believe 084 and 087 are likely to get it soon. Interestingly, it will mean 084 skipped out the black and silver entirely (good news for me, i never liked black and silver) If you are planning to model one, make sure you thoroughly research/observe whichever one(s) you choose, as there are subtle differences in the livery applications between locos
  12. I think I will anthony, they certainly look the part
  13. Nice painting! What brand of paint do you use? Also, do Dapol make modern image (ie high viz alround) style workers, as i am thinking of adding a little track gang to my layout?
  14. Thanks for the info hunslet, do you if when it became open plan in 95 did it become a 'full aircon' as such or go back to completely pressure vented?
  15. The most interesting thing you may have missed is the limited editions of 111 and 8113 being released. Very nice they are too
  16. Love the picture of 071 on the front!
  17. sounds like a reasonable explanation. it is a bit odd that they didnt use pressure vents to repair it though, but i agree it probably came to being during repair
  18. Never seen such a thing myself either. It really puzzles me just how it came to exist. I suppose with NIR any odd thing is possible! If i decide to attempt it, i will us lima, as i dont fancy hacking up a brand new bachmann model
  19. Are there models available of mk2 aircon brake coaches? Because im thinking if you got an old lima mk2 a/b/c brake and an aircon brake, a simple swap of one bodyside could be done to make that coach. Otherwise, mk2abc brake and an airfix aircon, and a cut and shut of half abc brake and half aircon window bodyside on one side could work? Then a bit of filler on the join and a respray in NIR livery, and it would look well i imagine. Also, the thing is apart you could take the opportunity to model the gen van exhausts etc
  20. Looking at the video again, anthony, it would seem you are right about the windows. Very strange, I wonder how it came to be so, as the two window types are different sizes, so its not like they could just slot one or the other in easily. That coach must surely be unique?
  21. Thanks eiretrains, i must say i prefer the lighter blue and red/orange panel on them. I noticed that the rear coach of that train in the video was a dvt, would i be correct in saying that these where only ever used with the hunslets as dvts, and the 111s just hauled them as regular stock?
  22. Hi guys, Would anyone be able to tell me what year NIR switched from light blue to the current darker blue livery on the 111s? Where there any other variations I have not mentioned? I am asking just out of curiosity really, as the 111s are my favourite locos
  23. "I can spot two mistakes with how you fitted the brake pipe detail!"
  24. Thanks josefstadt, thats really interesting to know
  25. Really enjoying seeing this layout, as i am nowhere near old enough to remember the era depicted, and it is a real history lesson as well as a fabulous model! I never knew they had customs at GVS, was it the same at Connolly?
